New FTTP Line in a school

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

one for the BT/Quinn people out there....

We have an outstanding order for a busines sFTTP installation. The end point is kind of tricky to get to from the nearest pole, but we do have an existing BT Openreach fibre (leased line equivalent - possibly Etherflow or whatever it is called these days) which could potentially share a duct.

The lates update we have from our supplier/OR includes the cryptic lines

What has happened? An engineer has visited site and identified that New (4) PORT CBT CBEJSFY required What is next? An INCREMENTAL BUILD Estimate (WH4CV22D) AND NIMS (41118373) has been created to complete this external work, and this job has been moved to the MJ Quinns for their completion.

When: The MJ Quinns will work to obtain all the relevant permissions, and an initial target date has been provided of RBD (20/07/2026) for the works, this is subject to change. Our next update will then be provided on HUD by NRD (21/07/2026)

Anyone care to decode the cryptic code letters to something more understandable by mere mortals?

I am guessing they are going to install an ONT or whatever, incremental build might refer to adding the fibre to the existing duct/tray/NTE but who knows? not me at least!, what is a NIMS? and I assume RDB and MRDs are dates of some sort.

Any help appreciated!

They are planning to create and supply a new CBT connectorised block terminal, from which to run the new service. CBEetc will be its unique network ID.

The other bits … not a clue

Received a letter just the other day ..

All progressing nicely from the looks of things, let the process work itself out

I think NIMS is their network asset database (network inventory management system or something like that), presumably planned work goes in there too.

Oh yes - I am doing just that - poke the supplier once a month because my boss 'needs and update' but leave well alone.... poking the bear rarely helps; I know the order is in and someone is doing something so that's good enough for me.

I didn't think they would use the existing fibre tray - I will make sure a suitable socket is available on the UPS for the CBT (it will be a dedicated xtn lead, for the CBT and associated router, but I am guessing the CBT PSUs don't come with IEC connectors so that should be acceptable - which reminds me; best I check the UPS and see if I need to get an xtn lead or if there is a PDU I can use).

The CBT is passive and needs no power.

The ONT will need power.
