Livebox wireless connection problems

[link to this post]

I have been trying to help a friend set up a wireless network with an Orange Livebox. We managed to get one laptop and an HP wireless printer/scanner talking to the Livebox. However we have had no success with getting a 2nd laptop to connect wirelessly.

We can get the 2nd laptop to connect while the Livebox is in 'pairing' mode, but it is failing to obtain an IP address, so we get the 'limited connectivity' message. Then the connection drops completely when the Livebox comes out of 'pairing' mode. I'm certain we're entering the WEP/WPA key correctly (case-wise etc.).

My friend claims that he had managed at one point to get it connected 'properly' (i.e. with Internet access), but again the connection always dropped as soon as the Livebox left 'pairing' mode.

Has anyone had similar experiences. Can anyone offer any suggestions.

Thanks,

John

I've just signed up and haven't had my LB yet, so cannot speak for it's config. However, have you checked the IP settings on the laptop? If it has a fixed IP that's your problem. If it's set to obtain an address via DHCP and you have not other settings in there to trip it up, then it is likely the LB.

plusnet occasionally up to 4MB urban connection. And soon to be Orange (hopefully!)

Thanks for the suggestion. However the IP settings were definitely to get an IP address automatically. Also you could see the connection status change to "obtaining network address", which eventually timed out.

Also my friend has tried further experiments and apparently managed to get the recalcitrant laptop connected by turning off all encryption and pairing (not ideal as it leaves his network wide open...).

Good luck with your LB (you're going to need it if our experience is anything to go by...) I didn't mention in my previous post all the problems with the setup utility on the CD freezing halfway through, forcing you to reboot and go back to the start of the process (I think I read on another forum that this may be due to an incompatibility with some versions of Flash).

I've been trying to setup a wireless connection using a PC World Advent 7105PA laptop which has a Marvell Libertas wireless adapter for a customer.
They have already managed to connect 2 other laptops and a desktop wirelessly without any problem already (limit of 6 wirelessly I believe) but they have gone through the setup disc and have got it connected with a cable but it just wouldn't connect without.
I've tried all the ways shown here which have worked for other customers
with WEP
without WEP
WPA

this one just doesn't connect.
At PC World it connects fine to their network
any body any thoughts please

He's now got both laptops connecting reliably. The trick was to set the security to WPA only, rather than the default WPA & WEP. Presumably having both types of encryption operating was confusing the reluctant laptop.
