LLU and Speedtouch ST 330 Modem

My Dad is on wallsend exchange and is about to be updated to 8 meg speed through Orange LLU. He uses the above modem which is connected trough a USB port. Do LLu have a 10 day traing period?

If so does he havee to leave his computer on as at the moment he dials up to connect at 2 Meg speed (fixed)

Would he be better off with a Livebox or some other roouter to replace the USB modem.

speedtouch 330 should work with up to 8mg llu however it will probably only ever give him a speed of something like 4.5 meg ( with updated drivers) If his line speed is faster than that then he could do with a router.
Llu does not have any training time, this is only needed with ipmax

I've had 6.2 meg speeds (8128 sync) from speedtouch 330 using open source liunx drivers :/

6266 was fastest i got on DSLZone.co.uk speed test (the one here doesnt work with AMD64 Debian/GNU - hint hint)
