Livebox advanced wireless config ?

So, here I am with my new livebox, connected at last, but.... I can't see an option for MAC address filtering. I've enabled WAP, put my own key in, disabled DHCP & uPNP, but I'd like to lock it down as much as possible.

Also, does anyone know if changing the name of the livebox is likely to affect my - yet to be connected - Orange Talk VOIP connection ?

Not too sure about the MAC filtering, but dont see why you couldn't do it.

The talk serivce is assigned by Serial number and MAC so changing the name of the box should be fine.

i dont know if this is what you mean, but ive renamed my network id to liveboxsjm, without any problems.

Another thing, you need to put the livebox in pairing mode for a new device to connect to it, its like extra boost of security, So no-one will be able to war drive on you.

It's not there. The security relies on the key and the pairing mode. I can't help wondering if there's a way to fool it into enabling pairing mode remotely?...

You can always restrict your DHCP scope to the number of machines you connect. It doesn't enhance security except when you have all devices on and connected, but it can't hurt.

'pairing mode' is MAC Address filtering. I guess they just didn't want to call it that to be noob-friendly. If you go to Security there are "associated devices", identified by the wireless adapter's own MAC address.

Also, disabling DHCP and uPNP will add absolutely nothing to your security. If any would be attacker was unsophisticated and determined enough to capture enough AES encrypted packets to break the WPA-PSK then they will also know how to abuse the ARP/IP protocols.

If I were to break your WPA, then I'd see what IP addr you were using. I could either make up my own, or wait for you to goto bed and use yours.

You're just making your life harder without DHCP and UPNP, they're nice.. I also highly doubt theres a way to make your Livebox go into pairing mode remotely (short of cutting the power to your house and putting it back on?.. it boots in pairing more..). They wouldn't have gone to the expence of adding a button to the machine if you could do that from the config. pages.

It will never be imposable to break wireless security. Its all just maths. Its about making it require so much effort that its not worth it any more. It will certainly be easier to simply smash a window and steal your Livebox+PC

I don't know if you were replying direct to my post, or adding your own comments, but I did say restricting your DHCP scope (note not turning it off all together) will help when all devices are connected (i.e. anyone even able to attempt pairing, won't get an IP address), but it won't enhance security as, like you said, there's little to stop someone jumping on when your devices aren't connected.

I must admit though, I thought pairing simply turned the SSiD on temporarily. I've not tried pairing with a device not already connected, so I don't know if the SSiD is off normally.

Incidentally, the LB refers to the Bluetooth adaptor being enabled, but I can't detect the device. Any ideas anyone? There does not appear to be a means to disable it...
