internet not working properly

The issue is that i can access a few websites (like google, theregister, sportinglife even ibm) but not the rest (bbc, digitalspy, microsoft and the list goes on)...

On the ones that i can't access, on some sites the web pages name is displayed on the browser title bar and thats about it and with the rest not even that.

Also have tried rebooting the router, installing new firmware, resetting it, leaving it off for a couple of hours, tried the connection on different computers, operation systems and browsers with no luck.

All this is on a orange connection, connected to the router via cable.

And strangely i cannot go to the orange website by typing www.orange.co.uk but through google can get to the setting page, which i've tried.

fixed it by changing the connection type in the the router from PPPoA to PPPoE.

This seams to be getting very common I also have to set my router to pppoe, think orange may be upto something and not telling us. By the way what exchange you on and if you do a speed test does it show as Orange or cable and wireless as mine keeps changing.

Orange's broadband connections/network are inpart managed, or rather were managed by a company called Energis. They were recently bought out/acquired by Cable & Wireless. So this is nothing to be alarmed about.
