Leaving Orange early???

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I have my mobile phone with Orange so get my BB free. This is ok but I'm not happy with a few things and wish to leave (no static IP, really slow speeds at peak ETC) so I wanted to leave.

Is this possible even though I'm on an 18 month contract (which I'm only 4 months in to), seeing as I don't pay anything anyway?

Your thoughts / suggestions would be much appreciated!

James

I believe the free/cheap options extends your current phone contract to 18 months from the date of signup. As such I doubt they can hold you to the BB deal as it's free, but you'll be held to your phone contract.

Best bet is to read the T's & C's on the Orange web site.

Thats what I was thinking. I don't mind keeping my mobile phone - in fact I want to keep it! I just want to get rid of the BB.

I am actually on the BB that I pay

I suspect (like me) you are tied in to the 18 month contract, though I'm surprised there's nothing in the T's & C's on site. Have you got the original paper agreement?

I have used more than 40gb a month and I am being disconnected friday..must point out though i dont know how I did it but after my first warning letter I watched what was being used. then I went through hell and back trying to arrange to move house because they made just giving them the info hard as in it took them two weeks and a phone call each day for them to start the process so every time i made a call i increased by internet usage so i knew i would go over there limit i moved house went without broadband a month then on day of getting the connection back on a letter arrives on the mat they are turning me off friday. I can say I am happy to walk as they have earned there reward for me having to phone so many times to simly give them an address.I get my mac code wednesday at 9am or i will be on to there regulator. I AM A HAPPY PERSON I WILL NEVER HAVE TO BE A ORANGE CUSTOMER AGAIN. AND I WAS IN CONTRACT TILL DECEMBER....WELL DONE ME...GOOD LUCK GETTING RID OF THEM

notwiforange, does it mean you are released from the contract and are not longer to pay the rest of the contract ?

Firstly, this isn't an attack, but that post is horrible to read. Try using punctuation and sentence structure f you want to be understood and taken seriously. And don't use CAPS as an emphasis. Netiquette considers that as shouting.

Anyway, just a couple of clarifying questions:

1) What kind of stuff have you been using the net for? Downloading 40GB in a month is a lot of data, so to say you don't know how you got there makes me curious as to whether you understand how big some files can be or that streaming etc. is heavy on bandwidth.

2) If you were warned about your usage and you responded appropriately to Orange and asked them to help understand where your usage went, I doubt they would have cut you off or dealt with you in the way you intimate. Did you ask them for help and did you try communicating via email instead of the phone? I've found that although you don't get an immediate response, if you word your emails correctly and helpfully, they are very helpful with their written responses (probably because it goes to a 2nd line technician and also probably in the UK!).

I am wondering if they will reply customer enquiry by email. Cos I did that in the past, they just sent a email and ask me to call their CS hotline. Althrough I was insist to contact them by email, they jsut kept trying to ask me to call their number which is not FREE....

I was putting my point of view and for your info

1 You don't have to be so patronising, rude or anything else , the point of this site is for an opioion why don't you try expressing one without xxxxxxx me off. lets face it your comments are stating what mr average would do first. the last thing I ever do is join forums. I rang I wrote I contacted their regulator I'd have stood on my head and quite frankly I got more info from their automated system. There staff have the presonalies of lab rats...

2 I tried the obvious things like pick up the phone.

3 the Live box advertises multiple pc's up to 6 if i remember right can be connected at any time. Well for three months I had 4 pc's connected to desktops and two laptops. Given my son and niece both require the internet for college work. and that my niece is an overseas student yes I am a high user my point was...Orange do not publish what their fair uage policy is so to my awareness unlimited packages should be a near enough unusual amount. it seems to me that orange dont seem to care there broadband is a free extra so not important. Also when I looked at the broadband suppliers the usage limits I found usage caps were over 40 gb on medium sized packages so may be orange have lowered there because they only want customers to use thre broadband servic as a free extra

4 I got my MAC code once issued they could not disconnct me till the 30 days were up or I was with another provider. I also managed to get it in one phone call just keep asking for escalations dept.

5 I am a very happy Sky user and given my many happy years with them already I do not expect anything other than what they have delivered in the past.I will never agree to anything with Orange and will cancel any dealings with company's that become affiliated with them they are more trouble than they are worth.

6 The live box was rubbich to fr the size of it (Hugh) you would expect it to fly you to the moon.
