Wanadoo something about Orange Rubbish Speeds

[link to this post]

I have been a big fan with value for money Orange, but its getting to be an embarissment with night after night yo-yo unworkable speeds.
Surely the powers to be must view statisical information from this premier site and least try to resolve network problems and give users feedback.
If theres a problem admit to it and make a general statement.
Come on Orange we loyal customers deserve better service than this, lets have some upstream corrective action from you ?

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/11794325424753177211.html

PS It could affect future Mobile and Broadband package renewal and dissatisfied users ending up binning both of these services in anger !

Any Orange Customer on mobile and broadband packages like to comment on above statement

I agree.

I'm on the FERRYHILL exchange (North East England, nr Durham) and speeds on here have been terrible for a few weeks now, especially at night, averaging around 0.8mb when I'm supposed to be on 2.5mb!!

Hi

Totally agree.

I also complained to ISPA but Orange blanked it as they said they had not had the necessary 10 days to respond.

I had about 10 days of the Indian call centre asking me to call back in 48 hours, then rang a different number and got hold of a chap in Glasgow.

He was as helpful as he could be, but i couldn't help but feel he was holding back on information. When he said call back in 48 hours I had had enough and asked for a MAC code. I was then transferred to another guy who basically cancelled my line. This was around 10 days ago, and the line has just been untagged. I will have broadband from my new supplier in a weeks time. Had he given me a MAC code I would have had a few hours downtime as opposed to 2 and a half weeks!

Customer service is appalling.

To top it I get an email today on my temporary dial up saying there has been a known problem for some time, has now been fixed and I should try again, and run speed tests 3 times a day.

All along I knew there was a problem, why didn't they just say so. Had I been given a realistic time frame for sorting the problem I'd have stayed put!

As a result I am no longer an Orange BB customer, and when I only have a couple of months to run on my mobile tariff I will pull out of that too.

Not that they are really bothered!

Just ran the BT Speed Test (www.speedtester.bt.com) and got the following results

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1696 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 536 kbps

These are my Livebox stats:

Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 14.9
Attenuation (dB) : 57.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1856
ADSL status : Connected [0]

Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1696 448

Can someone tell me what they mean?

Quick breakdown
You're synced at 1696 kbps, this is what your line is capable of, and this is the figure you would see improve if you removed noise from he line with filters etc.. 1600 is decent at least

You're IP Profile is what speed you'd beable to transfer data at if every thing was perfect, its like a cap in effect. It increases with 512Kbps increments, which I think means if you stay synced at 1600 odd it should increase the IP Profile to 1500Kbps after a few days.. Please some one jump in if I'm wrong (been a long day).

Your "Actual IP throughput" is the speed of data transfer that was archived when tested in a "real world" situation. IE it takes into account contention on the BT exchange, routing/bandwidth problems on the ISP's network, TCP/IP settings and firewalls on your PC. Amongst numerous others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

The short of it is basically this. You're getting around 500Kbps down, when you're line's capable of 1600 ish.

Napster have a look at this:

IMPROVE YOUR SPEED:

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

Check filters are installed correctly and buy decent filters:

http://www.adslnation.com/products/xf-1e.php
http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/adsl_bits.htm
http://www.adsl-filters.co.uk/

Ensure router settings are correct:

Internet protocol : pppoa
Encapsulation : VC-Mux
VP : 0
VC : 38

Check all of that, and still no difference in speed!

Rang Orange (non)Technical Support this morning and they are going to run a line test, though I don't think there is anything wrong with the line as there are quite a few people on here having exactly the same problem as me!

No line test was done because there is (or maybe not, who knows!) a fault on the exchange, which they are working to fix, with no completion date set.

These results have got to be the worst yet...

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2144 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 399 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP. - Don't get me started!!
