LIvebox says connected but data intermittent

[link to this post]

Hi - no problems for 12 months (lite user) and then 3 days ago I started to get "data drop outs". The Livebox says the connection is there but there's no data. VOIP is lost too at the same time.

Nothing's changed at my end and so it must be a bottleneck somewhere in the line. Does Orange time-share connections to share the load?

I wondered about the possibility of time-sharing too.
I use a Speedtouch modem, not a Livebox, but I do get Orange session
dropouts if I leave the connection up but idle. The ADSL itself is OK, but
the Orange server session seems to go "stale" and I have to reconnect
to log back in. I'm keeping an eye on it to see if there is a pattern.

Anyone solve this one? I have had the same problem for yonks; the ADSL and USB lights on the modem stay steady green and Windows Dial-up Networking status say "Connected" and clock ticking away with zero Activity, but ALL Internet applications, e.g IE7, OE6, ... fails to respond until I force a Disconnect & Re-Connect.

Haven't yet worked out how long idle it takes to do this.

Good morning XRaySpex,

I decided to install a Netgear DG834 wired router and, once I did this,
the disconnections ceased.

Yes, I've just persuaded Orange to give me its current free Siemens wireless router and, like you, this problem seems to have gone way.
