Can't get some websites now

[link to this post]

We had the email saying we would be upgraded on 4 May, and as far as we know it went ahead as the Samknows website is saying we now have LLU on our line. The speed doesn't seem much different to before (as was discussed in a previous thread we appear to be on a fixed 1MB line, probably because of our distance from the exchange).
The speed is fine for us and not a problem, but we have found that we now can't get various websites that we could get before and this IS a problem! Looks like we will maybe have to start looking for another ISP but I have been reading about the difficulties transferring to another provider when you are on a LLU line. I wish Orange had just left our line alone...it was working perfectly well before the 'upgrade' which we didn't ask them for!
We had to phone Orange last week as we had no internet throughout one afternoon and evening - they did test our line while we were on the phone and said there was an outtage on it - however the next morning we were able to connect again.

Thanks for your reply - I had seen that suggested recently as a solution and have tried it, but unfortunately it didn't make any difference and I still can't get the various websites. I believe it was also suggested that a setting higher than 1500 can help, but our Belkin router won't allow a value greater than 1492 to be set.

It is now much easier to migrate with an LLU MAC as a lot more ISP's accept them look HERE thats an old post there is more now.

Thanks for that link - we have in fact been looking at PlusNet but on their website it says:

......"Can I switch from a DataStream product?
This includes moving from LLU broadband services, such as Bulldog, to PlusNet.
These switches normally require you to cancel you service with your existing provider before activating a new broadband service with PlusNet.
Please note: it is not currently free to switch to PlusNet in these circumstances."
......

So I think that would unfortunately indicate that they won't accept a LLU Mac code and there would therefore be a delay and no internet for a time while our service is 'ceased and reprovided' if we did decide to change from Orange to PlusNet. But we will have a look at the other ISP's on the list and any others we can find who will allow migration with an LLU MAC code.

Well I have just tried setting it to 1492 once again, and now I can get those other websites which I hadn't been able to get recently! It was set on 1432, I'm not sure if it always has been or whether it may have got changed accidently from 1492 recently.
Anyway thanks again for suggesting the MTU change!

Steve thank you for the updated list of providers that will accept LLU MACs , that is very helpful. I notice that PlusNet is on there although their website seems to indicate otherwise - maybe their website is out of date. Sky is one we have also thought about as I think we could get a quite good deal from them as we already subscribe to Sky.
