Hi, Orange have changed their phone charges to correspond with BTs you now only get free phone calls between 7:00pm and 7am.
Orange standard telephone rates are considered to be the rate applied to the Orange home phone service during the day 7am-7pm.

And you no longer get 2 hours free talk-time now only 1 hour same as BT.
**Fair Use Policy applies. Unlimited UK anytime calls includes calls of up to an hour to numbers beginning 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 but excludes calls to these numbers made from the Channel Islands.

I have only just noticed this after an extra £6 went on my landline phone bill.

Yep, Orange sent a round-robin e-mail giving several months prior notice of these changes (as they usually do, one of their better features) though you might need to check your junk folder regularly, as they do have the habit of binning their own round-robin e-mails!

Thanks, I found the email they sent 21 April 2011, it says will apply from 26th May. I obviously didnt scrutinise it enough, I see
Inclusive calls are subject to a 60 minute maximum duration per call. To continue making inclusive calls simply hang up
and re-dial.

That makes sense, seeing how they've moved over to BT and abandoned their own equipment.

They never had their own phone kit; they are still BT WLR lines.

I never said they did, but they've probably negotiated a new package deal with BT as they've abandoned their LLU.

Exactly! I see you have now changed your tune and stumbled on the true probable cause ; not directly cuz they abandoned their LLU but more specifically cuz they made a deal with BTw to supply their BB.

You don't know, but you may have the last word as usual.

Obviously, I do.

Let's all join in the party. My half-penny worth. I don't know either, but I can't see any connection. The pricing to customers is wholly a matter for Orange's commercial discretion, not imposed by BT! If it were otherwise it would probably fall foul of anti-competition legislation. What I do see from their financial reports is a JV laden with debt, and from their more recent marketing that they seem to be taking the route of offering more "high profile" treats (their word, not mine) to entice their desired customer base e.g. the recent intro of Orange film downloads as well as their Orange Wednesday offer. A commercial outfit changes its offers over time: don't they all?
Speculation, but I've said before Orange UK are a mobile operator with a fixed line offshoot, not the other way round; principally keen on triple-play which reduces churn, the bugbear of their industry, evidenced by their multiple 18m contracts and cross-discounts.

Having decided to offload their BB, had Orange got into bed with Sky, there would be an entirely diff. phone tariff, probably with 0845 #s being non-inclusive/chargeable.

If Orange had decided to partner with TalkTalk, there would have been yet another charging structure and tariff, no doubt.

By Jove! I think she's got it! Exactly! You finally worked out the root cause.
