Let's all join in the party. My half-penny worth. I don't know either, but I can't see any connection. The pricing to customers is wholly a matter for Orange's commercial discretion, not imposed by BT! If it were otherwise it would probably fall foul of anti-competition legislation. What I do see from their financial reports is a JV laden with debt, and from their more recent marketing that they seem to be taking the route of offering more "high profile" treats (their word, not mine) to entice their desired customer base e.g. the recent intro of Orange film downloads as well as their Orange Wednesday offer. A commercial outfit changes its offers over time: don't they all?
Speculation, but I've said before Orange UK are a mobile operator with a fixed line offshoot, not the other way round; principally keen on triple-play which reduces churn, the bugbear of their industry, evidenced by their multiple 18m contracts and cross-discounts.
