I've recently switched from BT to Orange. On BT I got a sync speed between 4800-5400Kbps on ADSL2+. When I first switched to Orange, this was also the case, but after just one week of being with them, my sync speed started dropping. I've tried to phone customer services, but they are just useless, and I have no idea how to escalate it to someone who won't keep asking 'are you connected wirelessly', or saying 'that is the maximum speed you can get'.
For reference, I can now only connect at 1800Kbps on ADSL2 or 2+. If I force to connect on plain old ADSL, I can get 2272Kbps.
I've tried many different routers (well modems) to try and fix this, and the one I am currently using is the same one I used with BT.
Line stats:
Line attenuation: 47db (this is normally 51db)
Noise margin: 8.2db
If anyone has any ideas what I can do to get back up to what I was on before, I'd love them forever!

Hello craigbeat2,
Once youve plugged in your new router, it may take up to ten days for your line to reach its optimum speed. Have you had Orange Broadband for more than 10 days ?
Can you PM your details please and I will have it escalated. Also if you could supply me with a contact number, you will be called back.
Best Regards
Gavin

Thanks, I'll PM the details. I have been with Orange over a month now, and the only way the line speed seems to go is down. Perhaps I messed it up when I changed the router over when the speed first dropped, but I really don't know. I read online somewhere that you can reset the 'training' on it or something.
I have sent a PM with my details on it. Thanks for your help.

You were getting correct speed on BT for ADSL2+ @ 51 dB attn.
Now you are getting about 1/2 speeds for ADSL or ADSL2 @ 47 db attn.
Do you remember what your NM was when you were with BT? It looks like Orange is running you with a higher NM with consequent loss of speed.
What routers were/are you using?
Please post full stats Down/Up, Speeds. attns., NMs, ADSL Mode if poss; not selective.
EDIT: Can you get stats from test socket?

Hi XRaySpeX,
Unfortunately I have no idea what my NM was with BT, but I do know I was connecting with G.992.5. My exchange is also 21CN enabled.
I am currently connected on G.DMT as it is giving me the fastest connection:

Would it help (for diagnostics) for me to switch back to ADSL2+?
I'm currently using a Netgear DG834N with a custom firmware from DGTeam (1018) which is the same one I used with BT.
Thanks again for your help.

Would it help (for diagnostics) for me to switch back to ADSL2+? Yes, just to get full stats (up to Rate (Kbps): would do me) just for diagnostics. But I would have thought you get best speed on ADSL2; so that as well.

Ummm! Doesn't look very promising.
You'd been better off rebooting router to clear historic error counts.
