sloowww speed, 100Kbps downstream 350Kbps up

[link to this post]

Hello,

Had major speed problems for last few months. At the moment it's at 0.1Mbps, hardly useable especially when I work from home for the odd day in the week.

Been like this since the weekend. Happens every week for days at a time then fixes itself back to about 1/1.5Mbps, still not fast!

Spoke to Orange tech several times over last few months. Done all usual tests, replaced filters, changed cat5 cables, reset router to factory settings, used main phone socket to connect router to etc, etc. Never get any joy from the tech and they cannot help further so I'm stuck !!!

Anyone please got any ideas what I can do? (funny thing is that upstream is rarely affected, it's always the downstream speed??)

Thanks.

Going to add speed image;

Download is actually 22.99Kbps, up is 113Kbps, absolutely painful

Does "actually" mean your router stats? Need those!

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

Yep those are the real speeds as reported by the speed test. Very sad frown

Information needed from your router, for others to be able to comment

Noise Margin Up / Down
Attenuation Up / Down
Connection Speed to Exchange Sync Up / Down
Router Log if you have.
Exchange you are on
AdslMax or ?
What you are giving is only through ISP.

No, speedtests are useless w/out router stats!

We need your full router stats taken from the Web interface of the router if you want our comments.

Until we get those we couldn't possibly help you. I asked for them in my previous post, but all you did is agree to a false statement. Very sad frown

If you look at the diagram here ADSL Signals you will see that the downstream is using higher frequencies. These are more suceptable to being crippled by things such as corrosion (or water in the cables due to flooding) etc.

But it's OP's throughput that is abysmally low. His Syncs are good.

Sorry didn't spot that, but a bit of simple signal theory is always good to know when attempting to diagnose things.

The TR069 is Remote Control management Software trying to contact Orange server and failing. This may also be cause of low speed.
You need to contact Orange Helpdesk and advise them of this.
others wiser than I may be able to comment as to whether this is turn off able.
Try switching off router for two minutes then reconnect. See if TR069 still in logs
If still problem and no helpdesk responce time to move.

What router is that that is doing TR069? It doesn't look like a BrightBox.

Try disabling TR069 if it's not a hidden page.

I have seen an option page on a Zoom ADSL modem for TR069, so it's definately not unique to the BrightBox.

It's a Siemens Gigaset SE572 WLAN router provided by Orange if that helps. BTW appreciate the help so far, really refreshing that people are willing to help, so thanks.

Hi, a nice place to live Lapworth, I am not far from you I live in Knowle.
Your router stats look good, you are on ADSL 8Meg Max, your Lapworth exchange does not have ADSL2+ 20Meg WBC until RFS (Ready for service) date set : 30/11/2012

That TR-069 report in your logs is the router checking for updates, you have to stop your router from continually trying to update with Customer premises equipment (CPE) WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) TR-069, it is probably causing your connection to slowdown.
What model Orange router are you using? I would do a router factory reset and update the router firmware to see if that will stop the problem.
