Moving from BT FTTP to EE FTTP 900Mbps

Hi All,

Has anyone moved to EE FTTP recently, I would be interested to know what the experience has been like.

I have been with BT for FTTP since 2018 and its been rock solid.

I expect the experiece to be the same as they are practically the same company now.

EE FTTP uses the exactly the same infrastucture as BT's, that of OR, as do many other ISPs.

BT Retail & EE are separate ISPs with their own products, both subsideries of the BT Group. This is unchanged since BT Group took over EE.

I went live today on EE for anyone esle who may do this move, speed is the same 920Mbps down 108Mbps up.
Network seems good so far I will continue to monitor it.

One thing that was odd is i didnt have to update username in my NGFW- Untange

Switch over completed and no need to change username/password internet worked straight away.

Anyone knows why I didnt have to change username and password?

The PPPoE details aren't actually used, authentication is done by the tags that Openreach insert.

I'm on EE Fibre Max 100 (since having FTTP installed early March).

Whenever I test my speeds are always 106 / 21Mbps and latency is 5ms. No issues with the service so far.

As per TTB running over Openreach. The PPPoE details are dummy. It will happily authenticate even with the previous ISP details loaded for PPPoE creds.

Then why on earth do they even bother with PPPOE? It's an unnecessary processing overhead

This is the exact question thats popped into my head now, I can only assume thats because of ADSL/FTTC the actual backend systems are build in a way that everyone gets these details even if FTTP doesnt use them.

I am with BT and had a faultless service for over two years, Is there much of a price difference moving to EE from BT.

That’s slightly concerning. I live in a block of apartments where all ONTs are located in a communal comms room with a CAT6 ethernet cable to each apartment. I presume that if cables were inadvertently swapped I could end up using the wrong FTTP connection without realising. ☹️
