can you setup livebox wirelessly?

[link to this post]

My brother just signed up for orange broadband (was free with his mobile phone package).

He has a livebox. However his laptop does not have a network card. He used to have a pcmcia slot in one but broke the dongle and never got another. He can't see a usb connection on the livebox. His livebox is marked 2188

I have an old wireless pcmcia card which I know works in his laptop. I understand the livebox wep key is written on the livebox. If he uses that with the wireless card will he be able to set it up and use the broadband? Or do you need a wired connection for the setup?

I can get an old network card off ebay but it would be quicker for him to take my card if it would work.

Thanks a bunch

You can set it up wirelessly. There should be an option with the setuo CD to install wired or wiressly.,

Great thanks for that. I've sent him the wireless card and instructions on how to enter the wep key so hopefully that will work.

I set my network up wirelessly with the Livebox BUT I had to enter the "WEP" key as WPA-PSK.
It wouldn't work as WEP encryption.

thanks for all thoughts,

Just to follow up my brother recieved the wireless card. He put it into his laptop and could see the livebox ssid show up, entered the wep code from the bottom of the livebox into the provided applet and pressed the pairing button. He recieved an ip address and gateway from the livebox but still could not connect to the internet. So ran the provided orange setup cd which prompted him to enter his username and password and then the livebox connected to the internet and could surf away.

So all in all fairly painless and no wires used at all. I was quite impressed it worked so smoothly considering its and old laptop with windows me and an old 802.11b wireless card but didn't seem to matter.

So all ok thanks.
