Alterative to livebox

[link to this post]

Signed up to "unlimited" just before Xmas, installed livebox and Speedtouch121g usb wireless adapter. My talkphone only works on outgoing calls, can't receive incoming. My wireless connection usually takes three attempts before connecting and the fastest download speed achieved is 6Mb. (not happy)
Question - If I fit an ethernet card to my pc, how do I set up the livebox for a wired connection. Or alternatively can I ditch the livebox and use some other modem/router. Suggestions re makes and types would be helpful.

To be honest, Live box is absolutely not ideal for P2P or heavily traffic. I have got a new router and pack the Live box up.

The Talkphone does not use your current BT phone number, it will have another number assigned to it which should be in an email from Orange, or you can check it by going into the Livebox configuration (just type 'configuration.adsl' into your browser).

The speed issue will be with your USB Adaptor, my dad has a Netgear Adaptor on his PC and it takes a few attempts to connect.

Just plug the Ethernet cable into the RED socket on your Livebox (and the other in your PC) and it will work straight away.

You checked all your filters? Is the Livebox connected via an extension cable?

Thanks for the input guys, if I go for a new modem , like the sound of the Netgear Dg834 GT With the Netgear GA311 adaptor. However , looking at the installation guide it tells me I will need the ISP "Internet Config. Parameters". Can't see all I need on the Livebox config info. eg. the "fixed or static IP address" / "router IP Address" /"SSID" / and a couple of other things.
Before I plunge and buy the router can anyone tell me where to get the missing info?

You'll find all the settings by going to the Orange help pages and typing in either router settings or Article ID: kb193

Just the KB number. Hope that helps

Right, I've ditched the Livebox and installed a Netgear DG824PN Modem/Router. It's hard wired at present, will connect wireless later.Had some difficulty installing but now all ok and connected. It's real pretty compared to the ugly Orange Livebox. LOL
However, have just checked my speed and it's down to 1.4 Mb/s. Was running at
6.3 Mb/s on Livebox.
Is this normal after the new installation or is there a different problem?
