Hi,

1) there are two Ethernet ports

2) The call quality is generally good however there are a number of people on this forum and others who have had problems in the service being activated, and if on llu have speed fast enough to have good call quality - might be worthwhile reading through posts on voip. I think the general thought is as long as you can get speeds of 2meg or higher the call quality is fine.

3) she would lose the free landline calls, however I seem to remember a post somewhere showing how you could link the livebox into another router but far more technical than I can remember/know how to do!

Hi

I have up to 8meg and free telephone calls with orange using their Livebox, I have had no real problems and the phone service is clear. I am on a BT adsl exchange. If your friend is on an orange LLU exchange I would not recommend she move to orange. That seems to be where they are having problems.

To find out details of the exchange go to

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/

and select "phone search" down the left hand side.

Best wishes

Hi,

I think its fair to say that if you're not on llu then its a pretty good service however there is no guarantee that they wouldn't move you onto llu three months down the line.

I don't know how accurate Samknows.com is but it shows that there are no llu exchanges pending for Orange so hopefully that means they're working on getting the messed up ones right before they consider doing others.

I've got the 2mb with 2gb cap one with the livebox from last year, speed is generally steady, during peak times it will drop from about 1.8mb down to 0.5-1.0mb but still completely usable.

The fair usage policy seems to be around the 40gb to 50gb mark on the new 8mb offer. I have used bittorrent software and other p2p applications and have not witnessed any sign of throttling or traffic shaping.

You need two phones, one connected to the livebox and another to the other port on micro filter. You can then receive calls and make calls on both.

Hi thanks for the info, all sounds pretty acceptable, was expecting some speed drop in peak time (are you talking sort of 5pm-11pm that's when most people get on).

I think it's unlikely they will LLU my exhange, it's a rural area that always tends to be behind most places, my exhange serves just over 5000 premises I don't know if that's alot or not I would have thought on the smaller side. I was hoping Sky would LLU my exhange so I could take the very cheap broadband they offer as I'm also a Sky subscriber though I don't think they have plans to anytime soon.

Does the live box have ethernet ports? I think it has 2? but just checking, I want to keep the 2 machines on ethernet and the 3rd person is moving out but there's always the wireless option if I need to add anymore machines.

Hi,

those 5-11 times are exactly when I mean, Sunday seems to be slower throughout the day as can be expected.

The livebox has two ethernet ports, I've got one pc linked up by ethernet, two via wireless and my wii via wireless and all working well.
