help!!! slow orange speed

[link to this post]

I have orange via livebox and for some unknown reason my speed has dropped to half a meg download. on the live box configuration speed it says that my max speed attainable is 7 meg but on a few lines down it says im only getting actually 1 meg. when i run a speed test its showing half a meg!!! normally wouldn't be bothered but my xbox live isn't working with it being slow.
I have tried orange technical support but there useless and just keep resubmitting libe tests, telling my theres a fault and then saying its been fixed and i should be getting 7meg. any ideas??? i know if you pay peanuts you get monkeys but orange are beyond belief

Orange Technical Support - LIARS!

[re: stuarthround] [link to this post]

Join the party!

I've been having problems for well over a month now, and rang 'technical support' this morning and they were about as usful as a chocolate fireguard!!

Had me resetting IE, then asking me to plug the livebox into the master socket (even though I told them i had already done this on many occasions), then after a handful of 'ummin' and 'arrr-in' said they would do a line test - but don't have much hope as the one that i requested back in april was not even done, apparently because i never rang back for the results - how that stops a line test is beyond me.

They are just a bunch of liars and incompetent fouls who spit out information from a script with no actual product knowledge, or general knowledge at all, and, like i've said on many occasions, i'm not racist, but I sersiouly don't think technical support should be based in India!!

Well, rang back today get to results of line check, and guess what - NO LINE CHECK!

Apparently there is a problem with the exchange (not sure if he meant to say network, but he defo said exchange) and their engineers are working to fix it, but there is no time available as to when it will be fixed, and thats why they couldn't do a line test. Not sure I fully understood what he was telling me.

I was then told to go to the Orange website, and under Broadband Help type 'kb15457' and it will give me an article on how to speed up my broadband connection, and I can also download a tool that will optimise my modem, which doesn't work on the Livebox, so not really sure why he told me that, as he knew I had a livebox! Guess what - went to the Orange website, typed in that kb code, and there was no article found with the code! Well what a suprise!!

Was told that if i need to ring back then I should select livebox support, even though it is not a livebox issue, or contact customer support, which I thought he was!!

LIES, LIES AND MORE LIES!!

Something tells me that it will be a while before all is back to normal!!

You can't help getting the feeling they are making it up as they go along.

I had a nearly identical experience after i phoned customer service to complain about my peak hour speeds of around 200-400kbps in comparison to the 6.5Mbps i get the rest of the day

- it took four different calls to eventually talk to a rep that took the problem seriously and didn't just quote stuff of pre-written card (surprise surprise it was late at night when the Indian call centre must have been closed...), and he said i needed a line test (...) but he couldn't action it for some reason, but to call back the next day
- called back the next day (last tuesday), and csr bloke agreed to action the line test
- called back on thursday as instructed - no line test yet - "it is in process"
- called back sunday - the first two reps "did not have access to their system tools" so couldn't help, and couldn't transfer me, so could i please call back.. third person insisted I rebooted my livebox and pc despite my protesting that it was a network issues, but then we got cut off.... fourth person was able to help, but .... no line test yet... "i can see that there are engineers working on this (?).... it cannot be done before 5 working days"

so I'm waiting five days... anyway, it got worse, as as the end of the call, after seemingly understanding that the fault was clearly not to do with my computer as i get high speeds the rest of the time - he asked my to type in kb165 into the orange help search which turned out to be a page of idiot-level advice like "close other programs" , "defragment your hard drive" and "check for stuck email"... I nearly lost it...

anyway, still waiting, but i get the sinking feeling this is never going to get fixed, and every time i speak to a CSR person who just makes up more rubbish it gets worse.
