LLU Speeds

[link to this post]

Orange appears to have sorted out the network problems or am i just lucky.
Speeds vastly improved at peak times.

...and I'm STILL pegged at 2.7 mbps, although the silver lining is that it doesn't drop lower
than 2.5 at busy times.

Previously I was 2.7 - so with a bit of luck you should improve.

Thanks for your encouraging remarks, Keith.
I didn't comment because of irrational jealousy - honest gov ;-}
My 2.7 is solid again now and my LLU ADSL has never been unstable,
or absent as with some victims, so I'm not really having a whinge.
I'm just intrigued how The Chosen (such as your good self)
got their cap-busted status: LLU kit-swap or operating parameter change?

Ray

Mine was exactly like yours then at end of April on a Sunday morning it was suddenly 6.

However last night it was under 1 - back to 6 this morning.

But apparently over next couple of weeks there are big network upgrades.

The number of people leaving is extremely high - I'm sure if we stick with it we will get a very good service.

Have a look at:

http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3046

Reports of people changing MTU settings and getting speed increases?

Good morning Keith,

Thanks for suggesting the MTU-RWIN tune-up.
I'd previously experimented with settings, as discussed in the
Orange-related forums. I'm pegged at 2.7 mbps in the LLU mux,
as most of us were (still are?). BBMax and speedtest.net give
similar results no matter what. I'm now leaving my MTU = 1458
and RWIN = 521824 for a while, as my browser seems a bit
snappier. I changed from MTU = 1492, RWIN = 522720 this
morning after I read your posting. Wing-of-bat, eye-of-newt...

I've been using TCPOptimizer from speedguide.net.
If I tick its PPPoE check-box, then it forces MTU = 1492
and RWIN = 522720. I've tried PPPoE and PPPoA with no real
noticeable change in performance and stability. If there is a
complaint to make about my LLU connection, then it's boringly
unflappable! ;-]. Maybe it's because I use a modem instead of
the Dirtbox.

It looks like LLU is a winner for me and now quite happy with the Orange package .
I use the PC Pitstop optimize programe wth good results.

My ADSL went down at 00:30 last night.
"Saturday night upgrade?!" I thought.
Yes indeed, although not the breakneck increase I'd hoped for.
Now at ~ 4 Mbps.
