Help!

[link to this post]

Hi,

My Father in Law,, an OAP, signed up with Orange combined phone\broadband etc.
All went well until a couple of days ago, unable to get online. He phoned tech, cost him a small fortune, but the script reader was unable to help, so he is still unconnected, and reluctant to phone tech again.

He was supplied with their box, but this keeps informing him his password\ username incorrect. He assures me that they have not been changed.
I've just lent him a spare Netgear router, just in case his box is faulty.
Without going through tech again, what can anyone suggest we try to re-establish his connection. Any help would be very much appreciated. I'm not too tech minded enough to be of much help to him.

Sounds similar to the problem I encountered last week.

For no reason the livebox was telling me my password was wrong. Assuming it was a problem at Orange I went through hell for an hour on the phone and go nowhere.

What resolved it for me was a reset of the unit ...............

* Pull the power lead out of the livebox (leaving it still plugged into the wall socket)
* Hold down the 1 button on the back of the Livebox
* Plug the power lead back into the Livebox
* Keep holding the 1 button for 10 seconds after you have plugged the power lead back in, and then let go.
* Give the Livebox about 2 minutes to reboot itself.

Doing this will bring the Livebox back to it's factory default settings. Any reconfigurations you've made to the Livebox (including username and password, wireless and firewall configurations) will be LOST!

I assume he is using a Livebox. I hope this helps.

Hello woooshuk, and thanks for reply, as soon as he gets back in touch, I'll get him to give your advise a go. I did originally get him to power down\up but that probably didn't do enough to factory reset.

Do as woooshuk suggests as this is free. Rather than waiting 10 seconds with the 1/one button held down wait for three lights to come on, as this can take longer than 10 seconds depending on the state of the box.. it its is almost always done inside 10 seconds. Then let go of the one and wait.

I'd also make a quick call to the customer support people just to confirm the account is still active and the password and username haven't been misspelled.

Will do fellas, just one little question, apart from username\password, if by any chance he is unable to get his box to behave itself, can he connect to Orange with the Netgear router? If he can verify his u\p, the Netgear has a wizard which will fill in all the necessary settings.

Your help much appreciated.

Should be able to. Anything that says its ADSL should work. Standard BT settings..

Yup, use the Netgear - I've used both Netgear and Livebox, and the Livebox seems less "robust" in use.
