IP Profile and stabilisation period

[link to this post]

Hi,

I've just moved house and have had my Orange broadband activated on my new line.

I understand there's a 10 day training period on new connections, where the speed is adjusted to take into account line conditions.

My ADSL was activated last Friday at about 9am, but according to the BT speedchecker, I'm still only on an IP Profile of 2000kbps. This has remained unchanged since the router was plugged in (it's now 4 days later).

Should I have seen a change in the IP Profile by now?

My livebox is reporting:

Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 6.0
Attenuation (dB) : 49.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5600
Rate (kbps)
Downstream 5568
Upstream 448

I have been synchronising at around this speed since connecting the router up.

Adam.

Your Sync speed is good for IP Stream. smile

You sure you are not on LLU? Look your exchange up here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php . What results you get from speedtesters, like TBB's?

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU BB

Hi,

I'm definately not LLU, I'm connected to the Belper exchange, which doesn't have any LLU providers.

From speedtest.net I've been getting about 1.90mbps.

From the BT speed tester, these were some of the results I had yesterday (sorry, can't run a test today as I'm at work):

Your DSL Connection Rate :
5824 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM),
448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps

It can take up to 10 days.. as you are still well within that, I would just wait until day 10.

BT are/will be very reluctant to do anything until then.

Hi,

As expected, my rate did eventually settle down, and I got a stable BRAS profile of 5000kbps.

I've now bought an i-Plate and that's increased to 6000kbps.

Speeds are sometimes a bit up and down, but I guess that's just contention.

Generally quite happy.

Adam.
