Because the PS3's wireless chip and/or firmware / software (as far as I understand) is too cheap and rather poo. I had trouble getting it to work with my router, as well as the PSP, which shows Sony to be the weak link. Try allowing WPA (revision 1, rather than WPA-2) mode (preferably dual WPA1-WPA2 so if WPA-2 supported it will use the superior encryption). Then see if the PS3 likes it better. Of course, encryption off will probably make it go best, but that's not an option, so manufacturers are obliged to get their products working under proper encryption as a minimum, as far as my return-to-vendor decision making process goes.

hmmmm will give that a try. Quite surprising really as my old router the siemens se572 had no problems with it

Hi nellynell, many users complaining of slow wireless speeds with the PS3 and Netgear DGN1000 wireless router.

Have you updated the router firmware to version 1.1.00.41 (For World Wide users).

Create a directory on your computer C:\ NetgearDGN1000

When you download click, continue without registering.

wow thanks E7er alot of information there will definately give this a try. The range of the new router seems to be a big improvement over the siemens.

On a side note would anyone know if the power supply adapter is a 2.1mm plug as im trying to get hold of an extension but dont know which one to get.

Would the one in the link below be ok?

I got one of them aswell but i was wanting to just extend the length of the ac adapter itself as the extension lead does not have individual on/off swtiches. So i don't want to go through the trouble of unplugging and plugging in other appliances when all i want to use is the router i don't like wasting power lol
