My current DGN1000 N150 has firmware version 2.1.00.37_RG pre-installed
Sounds specific to Orange; not a Netgear offering.

You're a tad unlucky with the demand for return of router, I'm still getting poor peak time speeds, and I have Orange routers stacking up smile

Don't the electrical waste regulations mean that as the supplier they now have to provide you with a means of recycling unwanted electrical equipment, as you're not permitted to dispose of it in domestic waste? Certainly in the spring I got a freepost envelope with a replacement router, though the accompanying letter said they didn't require the return of the old router.

I can confirm that the Orange supplied DGN1000 do have custom firmware.(V2.1.00.39_RG)
I have access to another none Orange version (V1.1.00.35_ww) and up to now the only difference I have seen is that the logs show the mac address of a DHCP request and issued to each of connected devices.
Sun, 2011-11-20 22:03:35 - DHCP IP: 192.168.0.244 to MAC address 00:XX:XX:XX:XX:6D
But who can tell what, or if, there are other changes.
Might it have some phone home functions.?????

Hi, Orange has changed their policy of supplying the Netgear DGN1000 router. frown
After 05 May 2011 Orange now only supply the Netgear DGN1000 router with Orange Pre-configured firmware version V2.1.00.39. It seems the router will not overwrite this Orange firmware with the latest Netgear firmware version 1.1.00.41 (For Worldwide users Only).
But I read on the Internet, the Orange firmware version V2.1.00.39 can be over witten with the Netgear firmware version 1.1.00.35 using JTAG, I dont know how this is done though. smilefrown

--------------------------------------------------------------
Information from Orange.

If you've received a Netgear DGN 1000 router after 05 May 2011, then you'll have the Pre-configured Netgear DGN 1000 router. These routers can be identified by the presence of a wireless settings sticker at bottom of the router. WiFi security is enabled by default on a Pre-Configured Netgear DGN 1000 router - the default mode is Mixed WPA/WPA2 to maximize compatibility with different operating systems. WiFi security key and SSID are located at the bottom of the router.

The new Pre-configured Netgear DGN 1000 router has the latest firmware version - V2.1.00.39_ww. You don't need to upgrade this firmware as it fully supports UMA and Wi-Fi connectivity. They can be identified by the presence of a wireless settings sticker at bottom of the router.
Check which version of firmware is installed on the router:

Hmmm strange, received BOTH my Netgear DGN100 routers after May this year and BOTH had no such firmware, both were truely woeful with the initial firmware and only the second one improved with a firmware upgrade (Netgear official), also received a Livebox that I stated I didnt want and would not use. All 3 are now gathering dust in a cupboard since Orange decided to stump up the cash to buy me a lovely new Belkin F5D8635-4 V1. Rock solid Wireless and solid wired performance with no resets, unlike the Netgear routers.

Hi, thanks for the info on the supplied Orange Netgear DGN1000 router, your experiences with the router and firmware versions you found.
Ive had no problems with the supplied Netgear DGN1000 router, I do read the wireless range is not good, but I use it only with the Ethernet connection and find it very fast.

My favourite router is the BT Business Hub 2Wire 2700HGV (version 1) flashed with SBC firmware which will give a wireless power setting of 400mW probably the most powerful wireless router.

Good to here you got a decent Belkin router; Ive always thought Belkin routers poor.

I recently joined orange (December) and used the Netgear DGN1000 supplied and its terrible, my wireless connection would barely work, even web sites took ages to load. I initially thought it was the internet connection, but tried connecting to the router via a cable and it worked fine. Decided to use my old Netgear DG834G router and that is absolutely fine.

Orange shouldn't be using this router. Just have a look at these reviews of it on amazon - DGN1000
