Thanks for the warning I will check the DGN1000 (if they are still supplying it) very carefully.

Does the DG834G handle ADSL2+ ?
If not you are limiting your connection speed...

Yes it does but my line is not enabled for it, only ADSL Max. There may be a way to fix the problems with the DGN1000 but I didn't see the point as I could use my old router.

Just checked the netgear site and the product spec says "Upgradable to ADSL 2+"
I am running firmware V3.01.38
I think mine is a v2 model (which the above is the latest firmware for)

I have some other spare routers which I can play with, so I will just have to wait and see.

Should be on label underneath.

DG834G v4 with Broadcom chipset is often found to perform best on many ISP's exchange kit and is user tweakable.

Just got a netgear DGN1000 from orange - I have to say that this product is terrible.

I am getting poor wifi connection of 1mbps! disconnecting randomly every 10 minutes. download speeds of 0.99 Mbps

I have tried ethernet connection and it works fine with download speed of 15Mbps and upload 1 Mbps - no problems there.

Contacted orange support who fob me off with "change channel" etc etc. but it is still disconnecting every 10 mins.

Is it faulty, seems that it is just a bad product, Is it worth asking for a replacement from orange??

Download InSSIDer and find a free channel.

used Inssider and have changed the channel numerous times - still the same poor wifi connection

looking at inssider tells me that the router has a "Max rate of 18"

tried on different laptops and adapters - but the same result - disconnecting every 10-20 mins

using ethernet is brilliant but then whats the point of a wireless router??!!

Hi, what firmware version does your Orange Netgear DGN1000 wireless router have?

Orange send out two types of this router, one with Orange firmware V2.1.00.39

And one with Netgear firmware 1.1.00.35 this has to upgraded to 1.1.00.41

firmware V2.1.00.39_RG

Amazon reviews show that this is a really bad product so why do Orange supply this router - it just shows a lack of business sense..

Hi, thats tuff! I dont know why Orange mess around with the firmware, maybe they lock the router to Orange to prevent pilfering. tongue

Fortunately the Netgear DGN1000 wireless router I have from them has the Netgear firmware and works perfectly, Ethernet and wireless.
I did read the wireless reach with this router is poor and I have noticed the router gets very hot. frown

Orange are trialling a new router. http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/6...
