Couldn't update firmware, went through the motions, but still the same version frown

Have you checked your download speed?

Even though my trusty old DG834G (V2) synced at approx 19000 It's download speed was limited to 8000 (accrding to BT Speed Checker)

DGN1000 gave between 16000 and 18000 speed before and after.

My download speed is 700-750 KB/s from a good server, drops to about half that for several hours during the evening. Think this is pretty good for my line, I am about 2 miles from the exchange. This is on a ADSL Max exchange.

You have good Connection Speeds, but are hampered by congestion in network, which is common with resold IPStream ADSL Max. What exchange?
