Acceptable Error Seconds and dropping connection

We're still having ongoing connection problems (ie. connection dropping every few minutes to every few hours - go to end of this thread http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/favlinker.php?Entry... and I'm trying to understand the significance of some of the stats, in particular Error Seconds.

I restarted the router at 30/12/2012 12:26 to reset the stats, and now, at 12:41 we've had 59 error seconds. ie. 6.5%.

In those 15 minutes the connection dropped three times.

Is this likely to be caused by problems with our line to the exchange?

Edit @ 12:47 - six mins later and another disconnect and the the error seconds are now:

Error Seconds 79 11

ie. 7.1%

I reckon on about 1 ES per 5 mins on Interleaved or about 1 ES per min on Fast Path is acceptable. But I don't know what the cause of higher ESs.

When looking at ESs, just look at Local ESs; also post the Connected Time from the 1st basic Status page.

But the ESs don't reset with each connection so we're now talking about 242 in approx 10.5 hours which is 0.7% or roughly double the 1:500secs that you reckon is acceptable. But basically the ESs only seem to increment when we have a dropped connection so I'm not really sure it's giving us any new info.

There has to be a problem with the line. I've chatted to some neighbours whose lines share the same pole across the street and their internet connections (not with EE) are fine apparently, but I don't think that particularly helps us get any closer to the problem. Guess we're just going to have to wait for the engineer... In the meantime our sync speed is getting lower and lower

Well, the Openreach engineer came out again and found a fault on the line between thwe big green junction box on the street and the pole, so he swapped lines and now, fingers crossed all is good with the world of EE broadband again...!

But if you're asking this in relation to error seconds, then it's since 30/12/2012 12:26, ie. a week ago now.

I am! Depends on when ES were reset to 0. If a week ago, they are surprisingly good. If 21 hours, they are a bit high but prob a bit early to say.

I'm pretty sure the only way to reset the counts to zero is to restart the router...

Yes, that is the best way to monitor error rates.
