Having horrible speeds?

This issue has been on going for a few months on and off but has been 24/7 this past week and can't figure out whats wrong and EE are next to useless.

Speeds from BT Speedtester are

Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.23 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8.13 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7.15 Mbps

If I restart the Brightbox speeds return for about 5 mins then its back down to 0.2, Its not my laptop as have the same issues with speed on my Xbox, tablet and phone,

Anyone any ideas?

Are you testing wired or wirelessly? Wireless speeds are variable.

I am aware wireless is variable but when your getting 0.22mbps it indicates a problem somewhere.

I have just tested this morning again, its 6.30 am so should be getting 7mbps and its the exact same as last night, stuck at 0.22 and this is with resetting the router, changing filters etc.

EE did line test on my line last night, it took so long they gave up and told me to monitor it.

Then probably congestion at exchange. What exchange?

How sure are you that none of your computers have the following possibly running and using a lot of downstream or upstream speed?

e.g.
Dropbox
Torrent client (p2p)
Cloud backup service - e.g. Carbonite

Some of these would pause for a few minutes if the connection went down, and then once its back over time possibly saturate the connection.

I only have 1 laptop, it has Skydrive on it but its all up to date and not syncing anything.

I think I have solved the problem, I tried my old Orange Siemens router Result

Surprised! I find the BrightBox better than the Siemens.

What are its stats now?

EDIT: Still lowish throughput. Would expect 6.6 Meg.
