Managed or self-install - do I get an option?

Currently with Sky LLU, signed up with EE online today for the Fibre 38Mb service.

Have been charged a £25 installation fee, and been given a provisional go live date in May.

I did have an xNTE but I bypassed this with jelly crimps, and fitted an internal NTE5 with ADSL faceplate, which boosted my ADSL by about 1Mb. So in theory, there's no need for Openreach to visit the property.

Do EE even send Openreach out these days or is everything self-install? Couldn't find anything on the site or order confirmation to find out either way.

As EE only supply their non-VDSL Brightbox 1 router with the 38 Meg FTTC you will need an OR Fibre modem. So I imagine that will delivered and installed by an OR eng.

Is that definitely the case? I nipped into a store earlier and they weren't sure, one said that I'd get a call from EE to confirm a date, the other said that it's now just all self activated.

You're right! They now supply the BrightBox 2, a VDSL/ADSL modem/router with all their Fibre. So now 38 Meg FTTC is a self-install with no BT OR modem.

I ordered 40/10 Upgrade with EE, 18 May 2014.

BrightBox 2 delivered 21 May 2014

Upgrade at PCP by Kelly 5 June 2014 (spotted it actually being done)

About 15 minutes later, I swapped BB 2 in and BB 1 out.

BB 2 took about 3 minutes to sort itself out.

About 250 Metres from PCP plus another 50 M to FTTC Cabinet.

Running at bout 36 Mbps Down and 9 Mbps Up.

No Engineer involvement, although that was not clarified until I pjhoned on 4th June to EE; and fortunately spoke to a very knowledgeable person.

No change to internal wiring, which is a mixter-maxter!
