Ah - new Bright Box turned up today; NOW we're getting somewhere - latest firmware!:

Update:

Okay so it seems EE (or whatever they're called this month) have locked us out of the boot process via serial port - I can't interrupt the boot (except the 3...2...1... at the start) and therefore can't get root prompt, ergo I can't rip the partitions... YET).
