They sell the service as upto 17Mb/sec and claim I should get between 5-14Mbps on my line, then another part of their page says I can only get upto 8Mb.
17 Meg is just the advertising guideline of ADSL2+ technology for any user. About 8 Meg is all you should get.

If they can't even get copper ADSL right what chance have I of getting the alleged 32Mb they say my line will do on fibre?
ADSL speeds have no bearing on fibre. Former depends on line length from exchange while latter depends on length from cab.
Yeah, should be pretty obvious. Was not thinking when I said that. I'll post back with stats when I can.

I've had no re-syncs since I put the Bright Box on yesterday, still after 12+ days I'm limited to 4Mb when I was getting 6-7Mbps. I feel a pointless call to technical support coming on.

I'm also getting the same page loading problem that is mentioned on this thread. If you press F5 refresh then it loads but first time in takes an age or fails with a partially loaded page or won't load at all. Not sure what is causing that, probably unrelated but thought I'd mention it.

It's possible that EE has put you on a banded profile, see http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/br... but I'd expect your Down NM to be higher.

Looked at that and maybe your right. However we have had a development...

I was pretty convinced that it was not a wiring issue as the slow speeds were persisting. So being off work today I removed the Bright Box from the test socket this afternoon and replaced the faceplate filter. It failed to connect, with a (slow) flashing broadband light. I logged into the router and the stats showed it as synced with the exchange but not connected to the internet. I tried to phone technical support and got a message saying no one was available and they hung up on me frown. After 10 mins the light settled to on, and I had internet connectivity. Stats...

The Bright Box was synced at 5167Kbps for around 10mins before it finally connected so the synced time is about 16mins, while connected time is only 6mins50secs. Still on ADSL2+ and fast path. Notable change is that the sync is slightly higher and the BT wholesale diagnostics states I can get up to 7.15Mbps with the acceptable range 2-7.15Mbps.

So I'm guessing I might experience a few resyncs upwards if the line has stabilised from what ever the problem was?

Just a further note I ran the line checker test on the kitz site and under the RAG test it came back with...

adsl 1 linecode : GGEC
dslmax linecode: GEGEGEC

The C on the end meaning compatibility issue found. Going to the SamKnows site it said I have an additional service on the line which could prevent me from ordering a new ADSL connection. What could this additional service possibly be and can it interfere with my connection?

I think that just means there is a existing broadband service on the line. Therefore you'd need MAC code etc to order a new service.

It is your existing EE connection!
Examples are : Existing adsl connection,
Those linecodes ending in C are normal and are no interest to you as you want ADSL2+.
