I've been having slow response times on my fibre connection since install several months ago, being an experainced network engineer I could tell from the feel of the sluggishness it was DNS related. Tonight I'd finally had enough and did some digging, like most home setups this time round I haven't done anything fancy I have the Bright Box installed and pretty much left as is since taking it out of the box other than the usual password changes and wifi etc..
But getting back on topic, I ran a bunch of tests and the report from "namebench" an OSS project from Google iirc reports the following on the DNS servers obtained via PPP during negotiation. The routers DHCP gives out as you'd expect the routers address as primary, and the following two as upstreams.
193.36.79.101 SYS-193.36.79.101 193.36.79.101 9644.74 7500.0 10
A backup DNS server for this system.
100 queries to this host failed
Failed 7 tests, last: www.google.com.: www.google.com.: Timeout
193.36.79.100 SYS-193.36.79.100 193.36.79.100 9644.81 7500.0 10
A backup DNS server for this system.
100 queries to this host failed
Failed 7 tests, last: www.google.com.: www.google.com.: Timeout
So basically I'd like to know if anyone else has been using these servers and if they're also experiencing similar. For now I'm swapping them out.
Regards
