Hi, pinned a lot of the problem down to the router. Now own a TP-Link Archer VR200. Much more reliable but still suffering occasional drop outs in broadband - roughly every hour or so. This happens with Wi-fi, powerline networking plugs and if directly wired connection to the router - affects all devices that are connected at the same time. The outage is never more than a few seconds - but causes streaming to pause and buffer and my son reports games getting very "laggy" for a few seconds.
My wife is a GP and uses a secure VPN system from her laptop and needs it to be very reliable. If the line drops when she is using that then it causes all sorts of problems. She wants me to revert to our old ADSL setup, but I love the speed and am reluctant to go down that path yet.

Other stuff:
Connected at the master socket, no extensions, bell wire clipped. Using powerline networking for fixed computer and to a TP-Link powerline access point. Fault appears at all connections simultaneously. Only affects internet, streaming files from a server internally within the home network (squeezebox streamers) is unaffected.
