Seeing as how people are getting upset at the lack of new threads here is one for portal 2 - less than a month to go now for it:

So excited.

Not exactly getting upset ilh just a shame that we have many readers on these gaming forums who leave all gaming posting to others for whatever reason.
Its nice when people actually comment on what a certain individual has posted and taken time to contribute.
Portal 2 will be another game that i will be getting for sure and have been watching this along with many others.
Does not excite me like a new FPS but its a type of puzzle game that i enjoy in small doses.
When you see posts and see that 200 people have clicked on it and 4 people have responded it kind of sucks.if i and the half a dozen so people on here had the same state of mind there would not be a gaming forum.
Just becaause i comment on the need for more posters on here does not mean i am getting upset and loosing sleep about it,just trying as i might to get a little more imput to make the gaming forums a tad more interesting.
Besides its a nice change from coming on here everyday and seeing that nobody has added a single thing regardless of previous threads people have taken time out to write.
Its not always necessary for people to reply and i fully understand that especially if the thread does not exactly interest you.
But i think a little bit more imput from the people that use these forums would be nice and beneficial to all.

Sorry, upset is a bad choice of word on my part. From my perspective as a regular reader of this forum who does read all posts regardless of their relavance and enjoy doing so. However, I am a PC gamer and this limits my input - I don't own any consoles and although I still read what is said about console games or even console version of multi-platform games I don't comment. Even when it comes to PC games I have limited funds and time I can devote to gaming so have to be a bit picky - games like crysis get sidelined by me unless enough people cry out thta it is going to be extremely good.
I would like to add that I do really appreciate the input by you and the other regulars who do post with reviews and reasoning behind viewpoints on various games - it helps me make a more informed decision as to whether to part with my hard earned pennies or not.

Well said. I totally agree with you there.
As far as contributing goes I am a big sinner and when I do actually say something, it's usually not at all informative as I don't spend much time reading gaming websites much.
And sometimes, when I do see something I am put off posting and especially starting a new thread, as the times I have done so, nobody says anything and this seems to be because they already know about it, whatever that may be.
These days I don't mind so much making a complete f00l of myself so maybe I will start to post stuff more and just let people either rip it to shreds or completely ignore it.
Anyway, as for Portal 2. I did have the original as part of the TF2 Orange box thing I downloaded through Steam. I didn't play it that much as it just seemed like the same puzzle each level and like TF2, abandoned it. I've been a big player of BF2 in my time for the times I did actually game and this always had too much of a draw on me for me to try something new.
Having seen a trailer on Portal 2, I have to say it looked really good and very different from my preconceptions so I am glad to see a new thread about this title as I'd like to keep my eye on it and maybe this will be one of the first games I get that'll restart my gaming for 2011. Something new!
Cheers ilh. What does your username mean by the way (if I may be so bold to ask)? A quick google and I'm guessing it's not the Interscholastic League of Honolulu?

BF2 is one of my all time favourite games. I lost far too many hours to that game
I loved portal - yes it is the same type of puzzle over and over but it does get harder and harder and requires some thinking to get through some bits - i also liked the humour in it. It was just a bit different from most games I play - looking forwards to 2 a lot to break up the usual FPS (BC2) and strategy (shogun) diet that I am living off at the moment.
The user name is quite a boring story (that no one seems to believe!), but basically I needed a username when I first started gaming and after about 15 mins trying to think of something cool or relevant I just bashed the keyboard and out came ilh. Most people seem to think it means I love homosexuals/horses/hobbits or some other 'hilarious' option The problem that I have now is that a lot of games have started requiring a minimum of 4 letters for a gaming name so I am usually now ilh. or ilhilh in game. It annoys me somewhat...

Made me laugh! People are so typically 'inventive' eh?
Making up usernames is almost as big a chore as coming up with passwords you can actually remember. My own username that I settled on after corrupting bluetooth to Spook Tooth I have stuck with for quite a few years now. SPOOKish was an accident. After signing up here some years back I never expected to be using that name now - it was chosen just to test the waters here.
In Battlefield 1942, I was Corporal Spook but for some reason BF2 wouldn't allow me to use it. I guess to EA/DICE it must've been an offensive name. I'm not sure I earned such a bad reputation though?
I would have liked to have had the patience and will power to learn to play a proper strategy game like the Total War series. I've got Rome TW but couldn't see the point even after following the easy to follow tutorial. Seems like too much hard work too little reward. I am more like T2D in that sense, we both primarily like to 'run and gun'.
So you play BC2 do ya? I have that title but haven't played it much. Been out of action for a while but I'm back and really must look to getting more of my money's worth out of it. Might be a bit of a traumatic experience playing online as all I can recall was being pwnd from the sky, land and infantry too come to think of it. I wasn't much good. Always takes me a while just to get to 'average'. Anyway, it's enjoying the game which matters even if you're pants like me. Gotta take some fun from it... at least. Must have some special talent somewhere I don't know about cos I'm rubbish at everything else.

Ilh you did nothing wrong with using the word upset and its more frustration on my part really as i just like seeing other people make some posts.
I fully inderstand your a PC Gamer so in that sense it is going to restrict you saying much if you dont own consoles like quite a few on here.
And Spook do me a favour You more than make considerable contributions to these forums like quite a few other regulars.
Now for a new post in another thread of initial thoughts of 2 hours spent playing Crysis 2 single player.

Preordered as soon as it was on steam with a 2 pack
Who would have thought buying it in the UK on steam would work out cheaper than other countries/retail on steam

Aw shucks. Muchas gracias

Absolutely loved Portal and I've deliberately avoided all trailers, previews etc. for the sequel as I'm sure it's going to be good and I don't want to spoil any of it.

The 2 trailers I have seen for portal 2 don't really show gameplay. I'm not saying that you should watch them but it is worth noting

And with a free copy of portal - I have got 2 of my house mates hooked

I had ilh in BF2 but games like black ops even forced me to change my steam name to ilhilh otherwise i was known as unknownsoldier7 or something :/ In BC2 i am ilh. (with the . ). Add me if you like
FPS is my first love in gaming and what I spend most time doing and as such to say I might be looking forwards to BF3 is something of an understatement! But after a while I can get bored and have to try other games. I even move around FPS and play a bit of CoD4 and counter-strike source if I have enough of BC2 for a while
The TW games are not for everyone - but I do find them rewarding. On a decent difficulty setting it really can be a struggle. The turned based nature of the campaign map means that you have to be efficient - from deciding on building priorities to making sure your troops are capturing/holding territory and then moving onto the next conquest as fast as possible. Early on you have to juggle kick-starting your economy against getting your army going. The problem is that you need to capture more territory to get more money but you need money to get the troops to be able to expand in the first place. Only having 1 army early on can leave you chasing your tail somewhat and as I say, you need to anticipate the game a lot until you get established.
Most TW games have 'suffered' in regards to you really do hit a point where you have 'made it'. Your economy is strong and you are fielding several armies and can push in multiple directions and it is just a case of mopping up. In shogun it seems that when you are nearing this point the shogunate gets stroppy and goes to town on you. And not in some small way either - they gather most nations into an alliance and rush headlong at you. I haven't got that far myself but I have friends who got steamrollered by the massed coalition against them and they were playing on normal mode (losers! I haven't risked very hard or legendary difficulties for my first play through but I have gone on hard - and had to start again twice but I refuse to go on normal mode!).

Thanks, I didn't want to take the chance. I might check them out now. x)

When I next get BF2 up and running I shall certainly add you, thanks. That is if I can work out how to. My own in game alias for BF2 is Azro<>Tararg, which was a joke name but stuck. Had many epic battles! It would be fun to play alongside you sometime for sure.
Thanks for enlightening me on the subject of TW and how to play it. Just to display my complete ignorance, I hadn't even realised there was an economy side to it. Hoho. I really ought to start reading the manuals more! Okay, I only played the tutorial and had one battle after, in which I think I abandoned it as I got bored. I can't really remember.
Part of the problem is with Windows, especially back a few years, I would spend more time reinstalling the OS than playing games, usually because of BF2 actually. The amount of problems I've had beggars belief. The more complex your system gets (ie - you add a Creative soundcard), the more prone you are to suffering with driver problems. Hopefully things have changed now as I'm using Windows 7 and Creative, when I last looked, seem to have smartened up their act a little.
Anyway, your comments weren't wasted. I find the setting of Shogun a huge draw. I love feudal Japan (though I'm really glad I wasn't around then, unless I was samurai of course). Did you ever read the book? Shogun by James Clavell? It's a bit of a biggie but well worth it if you have any interest in the history of Japan, ninjas or samurai or old carrack style ships for that matter. It's very good!
Back on topic, I should really load steam up and get some pre-orders sorted by the sounds of things.

No but I will have to add it to my book list. I do like a good history book every now and then Am currently reading about the persian empire and their scuffles with the greeks.
I moved onto windows 7 back in November and have had no problems so far. I used to reinstall XP about every 6 months cos it [censored] me off so much!

Looks like the PC might be getting it a few days a head of consoles if this holds true, given the whole ARG thing is one mindfuck after another you never know but it is valve, it might just end up being a preload. I suspect pirate versions of both PS3 and 360 will appear next week (i haven't seen anything indicating they've been released so far), lets hope it stays that way.
Roll on next week....

Game does not get released next week its the 22nd April.
|
|

Nope.

19th on steam, and if that ARG is true then that could be pushed to the 15th.
Joys of not having physical media or a fixed publisher holding you back

19th is not next week Falcon and i bet you as much as you like you wont be playing that game until at least the 22nd April........There is no way that game will be available for download on the 15th
|
|
|
We'll see, check the store link it says the 19th, so unless that date changes PC players will be playing then, thats 9 days away. Unlike the 22nd for retail.
Have you read the ARG stuff? Some crazy stuff in there but the latest stuff was this:
rele4sed/ 'Kick 1t' ahead of schedule. that was a test. my 9oal/ is 2 emancipate s0meth1ng else early. but they're on to me. the systam 1s _ in lock down. i s7ill have access to thirteen off-site chambers and AM= inst4llin/ a test 1n each one. i am going to need a lot more test 5ubjects/ 2 m0ve forward. wa1t1_n9 and AM expecting immediate compliance.
From the ARG website:
Hidden in the above text through numeric replacements and out-of-place capitals is the following: "4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM"
As of 10:00PM EST, the release date for Portal 2 is listed as 1 week, 3 days, and 12 hours, according to the Steam store page. That is exactly 10:00 AM on April 19th. 10:00 AM EST = 7:00AM PST, which is Valve's native time zone. This confirms beyond a doubt that those dates found in the secret message refer directly to Portal 2's release. This can be backed up with the opening sentence, stating something else is planned to be release early. Whether they mean it will be released early, opened for pre-load, or have a demo uploaded on April 15 remains to be discovered.
There is a chance that it could be released early, it could be a demo, it could be preload, it could be anything, but with the fact the game its done through steam and stuff its entirely possible of an earlier release. Until other stuff happens with more clues and what not we won't know.
P.s: i bet you a decent gaming pc for yourself

What is the ARG stuff and besides i rarely visit steam ?,i have quite a decent rig built by Scan from about 2 years ago...........Just needs one of the super duper recent graphic cards.

ARG stuff has been kicking about for a while, for portal 2 is started with a patch to portal 1 which added some weird radio stuff in, from there there has been random drops in TF2 and stuff, recently it picked up with a group of indie devs and the "potato" pack on steam, about 12 or so games for 27quid, pretty much all good games too, each one of them had "potato" content patched into them which had all sorts of cryptic messages pointing to logins for the aperture science site, etc.
Some of the ARG has had people climbing poles to photo graph signs, digging through game files, working on different cyphers, etc.Crazy stuff.
BTW gtx 460 1gb's are cheap these days more than enough for high across the board
