Dead Island is shaping up to be a decent game, even if the end result isnt quite what the initial trailer promised.

Hmmm. The author didn't elaborate on that statement. Disappointment is expected but if it plays anything like Borderlands: The Zombie Island add-on then it's gonna have to be a pretty good laugh. Really enjoyed playing that.

Roll on September... what a wash out this July's been? And June come to think of it.

Where's the freekin' summer gone?

All sounds a bit too much like Dead Rising 2 to me SPOOKish, and I found that got tedious very quickly. It was interesting slaughtering zombies in a yellow mankini and Raybans though.

Ahem.. nuff said. grin

Left4dead is the king of anything Zombie related............Period....

Summer is normally a drought Spook and its not until September that anything of interest takes my fancy and that is Bodycount.

I think Resistance 3 is around the same time and I'm not really that excited about that neither, funnily enough Resistance 1 and 2 get a release this coming Friday for £29.99 which i may just be tempted to buy if i am a little desperate for games which obviously I'm not.

Starting to play through MW2 again on the psn and its quality and to me it has far more appeal than Black Ops.

Dead Island for me is a waiting game, the trailer was brilliant but we have all seen this time and time before then got shafted when buying the so called games.

I see the Gaming media and certain companys are on the cash trail once again with turtle beach releasing various headsets especially for MW3 which you can see HERE

Look forward Mrnelster to some survival with you my friend once MW3 drops through the letterbox wink

And HERE is some sniper footage from B3 which i presume is closed Alpha code

Yeah, I read the user comments and many made mention of Dead Rising 1/2 and how poor they were. Never played them meself so no idea. Hmmm. Some interesting zombies in Borderlands: Zombie Island that's for sure. They are bl--dy annoying!

L4D is another game I never got round to playing (for shame). I really liked all the trailers though.

I have just downloaded L4D2 in the Steam sale though so now I've more or less finished Borderlands I shall give it a go!

But I have just installed the new Crysis 2 texture/tesallation packs for the PC version giving the game the graphics it ought to have had on release (I hope). Looking forward to that too as I thought the gfx were truly awful when playing it a bit ago. Didn't even finish the first level I was that put off.

I was actually talking about the general lack of sunshine this summer mate. Doesn't seem we've had much dry weather since some time in May. Even I know summertime is traditionally a very slow time for major game releases, mate. Has ever been it seems. Maybe a few exceptions? Let's see - a nice little quiz is forming in my mind.

What A rated games have had their release in the summer months? Answers on a postcard or under this post please! tongue

I can name a couple meself even if one of them had been released previously on consoles...!

Edit: Just seen your links, ta for those. The BF3 sniper vid seems to have been lost as all it shows is a 4 second clip of the springboard logo. No night visions goggles for MW3 this time then? wink

This one? [new BF3 sniper multiplayer footage]

Looks all right to me (not mind blowing). Definitely interested in seeing how the new maps play out. All that foliage makes for tricky looking tactics, eh?

You're on! I do ask that for strategic purposes, all team mates try to stick behind me though. It saves time with reviving. cool

Joking aside, where do you pre order to guarantee delivery on release date? I have not pre ordered since MW2. I ordered it 3 months before release and my mate ordered it 1 week before. He received his the day before release and I got mine 1 week after. And we both ordered from the same place, HMV online.

Since then I have opted for midnight runs to Asda!

Agreed. It was a relief to see you could drive cars and mow them pesky zombies down.

The RPG mission structure, whereby NPCs you meet ask you to do stuff was kind of encouraging. You can see that eventually - with a storyline unfolding and more backstory revealing itself - there must be a way to get off the island or whatever they're going to do in the telling.

Dunno why nobody thought to sort one of the many boats lying around out though? I think that's the first thing I'd have done if I woke up on holiday and everybody had gone a bit mad in the night and wanted to eat me. crazy

Well, I'll be very interested to know how those new cans turn out for ya T2D. It's been a while since I had any surround sound gaming headset, that being a Zalman 5.1 I think. It'd be nice to believe the hype and see if they really were any better for spatial awareness than a good set of say Sennheisers in stereo.

G'luck with them. Where did you order from btw?

I only use one ONLINE SHOP mate.wink

Apparently in Dead Island you can play as 4 different character's and each Quest can last up to 25 hours....................Lovely Jubbly.

I have been watching many videos of this game and i am really looking forward to this as much as MW3 and B3,it looks a little repetitive but it looks like heaps of fun with many side missions and quests.

Been watching some IGN interview with one of the developers and when you first start not all the Island is open for exploration but will be available as you level up and get stronger, game even changes when a friend joins your game online as the Zombies then get even tougher based on how many of you are playing.

There is also 4 player co/op and lots of other stuff such as survival ....Pre/ordered roll on Sep 9th. smile

Are you getting the game for PS3 then or have you not forgiven Sony yet?

I should've known you'd have used shopto.net! Actually I need to call them up as they still have £2.00 of my money for when I tried to sign up with them and they never refunded it.

Mmmm. Glad we're agreed. Some mindless zombie chopping might be a useful diversion to other more demanding (and thought provoking) games like Battlefield 2 and so on. Ahem.

Just hope the story line adds up and makes sense (as far as it can for a game at least). I suppose the end scene will have the survivor/s sail off into the sunset but they won't know there's a zombie on board stowing away...

Then there will be Dead Island 2 or maybe Dead Metropolis depending on where they end up. All the usual cliches will follow - zombie taken off for scientific 'analysis', accidental (on purpose) release of mutant test subject volunteers and a new game set in New York. The infection will spread out from a cosmetics factory and... students and models and escaped bunnies and stuff. I can see it all.

I should become a game story writer! I'd call it 'Die Hard and then Die again'. The one after that will be called Die Hard and then Die again and again. And so on... I'm a genius! tongue

Like it. Yeah, I can imagine that. Nice old lady takes pity on poor ol' Spook. Next thing I know... Ouch! Don't wanna go there.

I was always too scared to read many Stephen King novels. My 8 year old sister was all right with them at the time, mind. Still, she used to get nightmares so serves her right for reading them. Myself, despite being in my early twenties at the time, I was far too much of a wuss.

That film about the clown living in the sewers and reaching up through the drains (amongst other things) totally put me off. For life!

Still, a nice bowl of soup. Who could say no to that? wink

I look forward to seeing what you make of them.

Had a look at the video from your link and gotta say I found them interesting.

Getting a new set of headphones to replace my cheap Grado's that bust on me (rubbish build quality/terrific sound) is definitely on my to do list. Much of their usage would be for gaming I suppose and the dolby processing via optical cable (did I read that right?) intrigues me. Not too fussed about wires mind as I would be at the PC most times I used them.

I have Skyrim and BF3 pre-ordered. I might get Deus Ex, MW3, Dead Island and a few others tho. Gotta see what the reviews are like first.

There are worse vices than gaming! Mind you, on the 12 point scale you'd definitely have a problem! But you're in good company mate. wink

Now repeat after me "Gaming is good and definitely not an addiction." tongue

If you can get an american to buy a 4pack of dead island works out about £23 each on steam.

But personally i'm a bit wary of dead island, im not sure what to think of what i've seen, it just reminds me of bulletstorm meets dead rising 2, whilst not bad games they weren't exactly my thing i could play on proper basis, as opposed to games like deus ex assuming it isn't going to be short or overly obvious in its plot.

There should be some reviews popping up soon though.

Im growing tired of the mindless shootathons which have little plot to string them together or a short campaign, its why i was glad to hear gears 3 has over 90mins of vids and has the longest story/campaign epic have ever made. Considering gears 2 had quite a hefty campaign 3 should be decent.

Dead Island is a cert for me mate and i really can not see how this game can really get that many negative reviews but we know that somebody will dish the dirt.

To me this walks all over Resident evil games and the Capcom Dead rising games that had some great reviews.

My only gripe as of yet is the fact that there are limited firearms and bullets which is my preferred way of inflicting mass destruction.

As for the turtle beach PX5 i will be surprised if they are as easy to set up as they claim especially with the optical cable,I already have optical cables set up behind the television going here there and everywhere in my sound system from Keff.

Not really that keen on the big boom shaped microphone that could have been more streamlined, also the last turtle beach headset i bought a few years back was a little cheap looking plastic thing...

Saying that it was really comfortable around my ears and sounded really nice which is what its all about really wink

Only played the original Gears of War and quite enjoyed that for the storyline and cutscenes. It made a big difference to how the game felt and kind of encouraged you to play through pretty repetitive swarms of enemy monsters. 90 mins sounds a lot, hopefully there is plenty of action to be had built around that but at the least should mean the game has a strong story and that will aid your focus really well.

Dead Island for £23 would be luvly. My mate is over in America now so I guess I could ask him but he's a (non-gaming) pillock so I don't think that would be such a good idea really. It'd be safer to pay more over here! Yeah, more info would be good.

The game looks really good thus far except for the heavy emphasis on melee attacks though I personally enjoyed the baseball bat from that vid. It had the (stress relieving) right feel to it, don't you agree? tongue

Yeah, with that many flippin' zombies running around all trying to grope you and bite off body parts, a few more guns (with fire damage maybe!) would be nice. I also prefer firearms, especially against enemies who cling to you and slow you down when close up. It's like "ugh! get away from me, zombie beast!"

I think from what I've read and seen, with zombies, you need more than one player so someone can distract them whilst the other takes them down. Especially so if you're relying on melee weapons as the last thing you want is them climbing all over you.

That's what you want from a gaming headset, innit? Great sound quality (with the ability to boost subtle footsteps and voice over explosions and gunfire) coupled with comfort and ease (and adaptability) of use. I can see why you're not keen on more cables with that Kef sound system in place.

Provided the mic can sit out of the way without becoming a permanent distraction (and no one is watching you play your games and filming ya) then a big daft mic shouldn't be too much of a problem. Hopefully it will be as good as the marketing blurb claims and its size will be an indicator of quality, even if its just one for robustness.

Well, we of the forum will keep a beady eye out for your initial thoughts review on the Turtle Beach PX5 headphones then. Gotta say I am looking forward to you receiving them. smile

The book, IT and the to some extent the film spooked the life out of me and I'm the hardest of die hard horror fans

I read the book in my early teens and mostly whilst holed up in a caravan in the summer holidays. One particular day, all the family had gone out for a walk, but I decided to stay behind. There then ensued quite some storm, battering this rather small caravan with torrential rain. The caravan park had storm drains
Every time there was a loud noise from outside I jumped and thought a clown would appear at any moment
No nightmare though

The film didn't bother me too much and Tim Curry was excellent as Pennywise, but still don't like clowns to this day

No nightmares, just a heart attack! Great story, what a terrific setting for a scare. There's is nothing quite like losing yourself in a good book only to be rudely interrupted!

Yeah, I've seen IT (couldn't remember the title though) and that clown has scarred me for life. That said, it was really amazing how such a character could be painted in such a different light. Stephen King is a master story writer and I've enjoyed lots of adaptations from his novellas and such.

I am still too chicken to read IT though. And I fair few others of SK's bibliography will be given a wide berth too. Mind you, lots of charity shops round where I live. I wonder if it'll turn up anytime? Now, that would make for a good horror story itself I reckon, 'the book' by spook. grin

So, no enthusiasm for tackling the mess of wires and connections at the back of your AV stand then eh? I'm not surprised. Tis a shame though as I was very keen to see what they were like myself! Ah well, must be patient I suppose.

Well, they look like they're built to last and they're not meant to be too heavy so hopefully the light package is indicative of there being less junk used in the packaging itself. Did you buy the Xbox 360 adapter thing for your controller (as shown in the video) as well? I liked the idea behind using bluetooth to stream music from your phone whilst you gamed. You could put on something nice and relaxing whilst you mowed down those zombies! tongue

I actually bought the Playstation 3 version of the PX5 and it comes with the lead required for chat on the 360...............So all in all why they release a xbox 360 version and a playstation version is a little stupid if you ask me.

What i will say they better be good and sound a lot better than my Logitech f540 headset which by all means is a nice bit of kit.

One thing i don't like about the turtle beach PX5 is the fact that you have to keep changing the connections depending on what console your playing............That to me is not a way forward for these so called next generation headset because my F540 can switch with just a button on the side of the headset from xbox 360 to p3 just like that.

So since i really prefer my PlayStation 3 for most of my games then it wont really be a problem until something exclusive comes along like Gears Of War 3.

Hey Spook go out and get yourself a PlayStation 3 mate in preparation for me and you to do some serious zombie bashing.................I am sure we will have a great time and you want regret buying your new toy..............

The set only actually comes with a optical cable that goes from the unit to the playstation so it seems straight forward, then you have the usb power that also goes into the playstation 3.................Another drawback is the batteries that are not rechargeable in the headset, again this was standard in my f540 so you have to ask yourself a question for such a expensive bit of kit like these turtle beach why this was not implemented.wink

Thanks pal. The additional info was appreciated.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If you're buying a more premium product you expect a little more attention to design details but hopefully the lack of in-headphones recharging and easy switching between PS3 and Xbox means the money has been spent elsewhere, hopefully on sound quality!

I suppose I ought to have gotten a PS3 back when I bought my blu ray player, as it cost about the same if not a little more. I think, were I to buy a new console, it would have to be the Xbox to be honest. Much as I'd like to hook up with you and few other mates on PS3 I think the Xbox would offer better value really. One day perhaps...!
