I thought I read somewhere that it had been planned for this week but it is was likely to be the 27th or something as they wanted to release it across all platforms at the same time and Microsoft/Sony had to clear it for beta.

He wont get any headstart as the only thing carried over from the beta is you soldier name, stats are all reset, Is in the faq about the beta on the bf3 site.

You haven't? Well, it's definitely paddling it's way right to you as we speak. The power supply unit seems to be the culprit. It's a shame I've got to send it to the Netherlands if I want a replacement within warranty.
I also read beta testers will have their stats reset so won't get a head start stats-wise. They'll be a little more practised though. Me? I will be lucky to even play the game on release, it's going to be a long time before my PC's back from its trip to Swanny-land.

Minimum system requirements have been announced. Looks like people playing on a PC will need to invest heavily in new hardware if they've anything older than Core 2 and a 8800/9800 series graphics card. No good having XP either.
The beta is planned for Tues 27th Sept for those with advanced tickets and Thursday 29th Sept for everyone else.
My PSU is dead. The only spare I have is 100 miles away. What am I gonna do????
Sob.

Travel......... or spend some of that Money you have staked away Spook.
Besides a decent PSU is not that dear is it ?

The one I'm looking at is expensive. Had a look at a round up review at Bit tech and the recommendation seems to be Seasonic X series. Whichever way you cut it, it's going to cost me a tonne.
I need a load of sata power connectors as I have lots of drives which need powering and enough watts to power one hungry graphics card and overclocked CPU etc. So I don't need more than about 600W really. I could get away with a much lower rated one providing the quality is there but it won't have anywhere near enough connectors (as it'll be designed to power smaller loads and will cut back on the number of connectors).
Stability and power efficiency is important to me. The one it's replacing is an OCZ Elitestream 800W PSU, which had good reviews at the time. Unfortunately, though it's still under manufacturer's guarantee their RMA centre for Europe is based in the smegging Netherlands so it's going to cost me at least £20 to send this 3kg beasty back and that's without adequate insurance (£46 tops and no tracking/signature). It'll cost closer to £40 to get proper safeguards against it getting lost so I'm not sure it'll be worth sending back.
Hohum. Oh yeah, money? You gotta be kidding me right? Got my house insurance bill coming up this month and they want to take a nice bite out of the money I've not spent on games and gadgets. Guess I could cough up the dosh and buy a train ticket to go collect that old Enermax PSU though. Hmm.

I had already heard that they were not supporting dx9 (so XP) which was the only bit I maybe hadn't expected. But then thinking about it, it isn't that surprising really. There can't be too many people who call themselves gamers and yet are still running dual core/8800s (the 8800s were released in 2005...).
[edit]added the word gamers so that the sentence actually make a bit more sense![/edit]

That long ago? Seems like only yesterday when I remember all the excitement by the announcement of the 8800 series. I must be stuck in something of a time warp. And there was me thinking my PSU was a little over 18 months old too.
It is encouraging to see a game for the PC that ditches some of the old tech and pushes forward though I expect there will be plenty who are still stuck using the minimum spec. If I manage to get my system back up then even that will struggle with a Core i7 920 CPU and a 5870 gfx card. Don't really want to shell out big money anymore but BF3 and Skyrim might force my hand.

I have a i7 950 (I think) and I am not at all concerned about that being good enough for BF3. I am thinking of buying an improved fan and tinkering with some overclocking which I don't currently use. I am going to have to replace my 4850 I think. It will run BF3 no probs but I want it to run silky smooth with high settings which it just won't be able to do.
The beta should tell me exactly how urgent it is that I get the card ordered

Don't you drive Spook matey
|
|
|
No. I don't believe in driving. Cars? Nah. Well, actually I live in London and there's no way I could afford to run a car here anyway. Just as well I don't really need one where I live.
Train's the only thing I got mate. Bleedin' train operators and tories putting the fares up though. Shame they don't have a 3rd class anymore.
Guess you do a lot of driving where you live, eh? You're in the midlands ain'tcha? Don't they have trains up your way then?

A 950 eh? Lovely jubbly. Just had a peek at it and it's got a good multiplier (23X) so should overclock better than my lowly 920 (20X).
I only took mine up to 3.7GHz as I couldn't be doing with playing around setting all the voltages for everything. My mobo bios has a silly amount of overclocking settings - I just left them all on auto pretty much.
I think there is meant to be some kind of announcement this autumn about ATI's next generation of graphics cards. Might be worth holding off for that as I believe (though I am well out of the know), there isn't too much difference (performance wise) between the 5xxx and 6xxx series of ATI/AMD graphics cards (could be wrong though).
Bit tech are good resource for seeing what CPU coolers are best. They always benchmark them. Should be able to track down their currently recommended cooler - I guess you have the same socket as me so this one might not be what you need but the article might be worth taking a look at anyway. Not exactly cheap though!

Yeah mate we have Steam trains if i was to travel and i did not drive then the Train would be my choice as catching a bus is right out the question and i think the last time i was on one was about 30 years ago.
Actually i am from the midlands but live in a market town called Tewkesbury which is quite pleasant if you like that sort of thing, kind of miss been right out in the middle of the country like previous houses but it will do for now,we went for this because it was a new house at the time and we thought what the hell lets go brand new instead of old country cottage or converted barn or whatever.
We are serial house movers as we have lived in 7 houses in 10 years and we like to move around believe it or not.
Could have played a few rounds of gears instead of telling you my life story.

Anyway this is not a Beta if you think about it,its more a online multiplayer demo because there will be no chance of giving any constructive feedback because when this goes live next thursday for more than likely about 10 days the game would have already gone to the production line because its released 2 weeks later.
I just Hope Dice are satisfied with the product they are putting out because this could make or break this game if the online Demo/Beta don't meet expectations its set already.
Shame there is no sign of a MW3 demo or so called Beta also

Sounds like you need a caravan mate! 7 houses in 10 years? Crikey!
So, I looked up Tewkesbury and had a look. Seems okay to me. I'm from a small market town right down the river from you. Bit boring to be honest. I prefer my big cities. If I had the cash though I would have a gaff in some remote place to escape to. Or get those Unimog things I've seen in the news lately!
Loads of buses in London mate. They're not as bad as some people say. They're worse!
