Re: Battlefield Beta Possibly tomorrow.... Dice

I had already heard that they were not supporting dx9 (so XP) which was the only bit I maybe hadn't expected. But then thinking about it, it isn't that surprising really. There can't be too many people who call themselves gamers and yet are still running dual core/8800s (the 8800s were released in 2005...).

[edit]added the word gamers so that the sentence actually make a bit more sense![/edit]

That long ago? Seems like only yesterday when I remember all the excitement by the announcement of the 8800 series. I must be stuck in something of a time warp. And there was me thinking my PSU was a little over 18 months old too.

It is encouraging to see a game for the PC that ditches some of the old tech and pushes forward though I expect there will be plenty who are still stuck using the minimum spec. If I manage to get my system back up then even that will struggle with a Core i7 920 CPU and a 5870 gfx card. Don't really want to shell out big money anymore but BF3 and Skyrim might force my hand. tongue

I have a i7 950 (I think) and I am not at all concerned about that being good enough for BF3. I am thinking of buying an improved fan and tinkering with some overclocking which I don't currently use. I am going to have to replace my 4850 I think. It will run BF3 no probs but I want it to run silky smooth with high settings which it just won't be able to do.

The beta should tell me exactly how urgent it is that I get the card ordered smile

No. I don't believe in driving. Cars? Nah. Well, actually I live in London and there's no way I could afford to run a car here anyway. Just as well I don't really need one where I live.

Train's the only thing I got mate. Bleedin' train operators and tories putting the fares up though. Shame they don't have a 3rd class anymore.

Guess you do a lot of driving where you live, eh? You're in the midlands ain'tcha? Don't they have trains up your way then?

A 950 eh? Lovely jubbly. Just had a peek at it and it's got a good multiplier (23X) so should overclock better than my lowly 920 (20X).

I only took mine up to 3.7GHz as I couldn't be doing with playing around setting all the voltages for everything. My mobo bios has a silly amount of overclocking settings - I just left them all on auto pretty much.

I think there is meant to be some kind of announcement this autumn about ATI's next generation of graphics cards. Might be worth holding off for that as I believe (though I am well out of the know), there isn't too much difference (performance wise) between the 5xxx and 6xxx series of ATI/AMD graphics cards (could be wrong though).

Bit tech are good resource for seeing what CPU coolers are best. They always benchmark them. Should be able to track down their currently recommended cooler - I guess you have the same socket as me so this one might not be what you need but the article might be worth taking a look at anyway. Not exactly cheap though!

Yeah mate we have Steam trains tongue if i was to travel and i did not drive then the Train would be my choice as catching a bus is right out the question and i think the last time i was on one was about 30 years ago.

Actually i am from the midlands but live in a market town called Tewkesbury which is quite pleasant if you like that sort of thing, kind of miss been right out in the middle of the country like previous houses but it will do for now,we went for this because it was a new house at the time and we thought what the hell lets go brand new instead of old country cottage or converted barn or whatever.

We are serial house movers as we have lived in 7 houses in 10 years and we like to move around believe it or not.

Could have played a few rounds of gears instead of telling you my life story.

Anyway this is not a Beta if you think about it,its more a online multiplayer demo because there will be no chance of giving any constructive feedback because when this goes live next thursday for more than likely about 10 days the game would have already gone to the production line because its released 2 weeks later.

I just Hope Dice are satisfied with the product they are putting out because this could make or break this game if the online Demo/Beta don't meet expectations its set already.

Shame there is no sign of a MW3 demo or so called Beta also smile

Sounds like you need a caravan mate! 7 houses in 10 years? Crikey! crazy

So, I looked up Tewkesbury and had a look. Seems okay to me. I'm from a small market town right down the river from you. Bit boring to be honest. I prefer my big cities. If I had the cash though I would have a gaff in some remote place to escape to. Or get those Unimog things I've seen in the news lately!

Loads of buses in London mate. They're not as bad as some people say. They're worse! grin
