..... because you PC boys are getting too much airplay at the minute.
And because talking about BF3 over and over is getting boring!
Are the next gen. consoles (whether this year or next) going to be able to match or sneak ahead of the average good spec PC? If not, bearing in mind how quickly things change in PC terms, what would be the point? And I said average. Strapping multiple 5800's together doesn't count!
Will we really be looking toward gameplay visuals near the Unreal Samaritan demo?

With the state of the financial systems of the world and given the fact that they say they don't make money from making and selling consoles will they bother??

They better had. If I had the choice between eating and a new console, you'd be looking at a thinner gamer!

Wii U will proably be out end of this year, proaby see xbox 4 in 2013 and the PS3 following after it.
|
|
|
|
WII U will be out in the summer and July is the release date not that it interests me based on the rubbish that has been released on the Nintendo wii the last few years Zelda Apart.
I dont think we will be waiting until 2013 for either a new Xbox of Sony console as that would be foolish to let Nintendo have all the glory with a new console.
Dont be surprised if both announce a new console at E3 to ship end of this year.
|
|
|
|
How hard can it be to make a new xbox or ps???
Why does it take them so long?
|
|
|
|
Its all about timing and greed to be honest Swanny,if they can still ship consoles that are 6 years old and nobody else releases new hardware then they will continue to do this.
Both Sony and Microsoft deny they are working on next generation consoles and we all know this is garbage and Sony are saying that there intention of there Playstation 3 was a 10 year like cycle.
Now after seeing how bad Battlefield 3 actually looked on consoles and the fact that Nintendo are bringing a new console to market this summer would you if you were Sony and Microsoft sit back and let another company take all the glory.
Both Sony and Microsoft know to well that the Nintendo Wii took some serious money with there motion controlled gaming [not that it interest me much] and are a serious threat once again with there gaming consoles.
Both would be foolish to ignore the fact that Nintendo have a console out this summer and if i was a guessing man i would think both would be frantically developing like mad and if neither mentions a console at E3 i would be gob smacked.
Every other generation of consoles has had a 5 year life cycle and both these are now 7 years old and it dont need me and you telling them that the time is right now .
The Nintendo wii sold in its millions and was the most sort after console in gaming history and sold out everywhere within hours and had limited stock for weeks after.
Personally im not sold on Motion gaming and im not actually sold on the new Nintendo U but knowing me and the fact i love my gaming and gadgets and i saw some interesting stuff on the Nintendo U then i might be tempted especially if both Sony and Microsoft had nothing planned until 2013.
That to me would be a marketing disaster and Sony should learn from there mistake with the Playstation 3 been nearly a year behind Microsoft and only the past 18 months are they starting to play catch up.
Microsoft though should be extra careful in what they do with there next device, because getting to market first is a great idea but the lawsuits regarding the dreaded RROD should never have happened and has cost them countless millions........What happened to the test department here ?

Should find out in the next 3 days if you're getting anything for Christmas this year!
I kind of get the feeling you'll be waiting another year though but if nothing is announced at CES, you could be waiting until 2014...

I have said that i will be very surprised if they let Nintendo have it all there own way,but the more i read about the pair of them the more i think you may well me right.
Nintendo have made some of the greatest games of all time but the wii for me became a family and kids entertainment system and far to much tripe was released in the later years.
If Nintendo seriously grow up then it may appeal but im not sold on there new console at the moment and im certainly not sold on the controller /tablet that looks like the size of a ipad.

I read somewhere the other day (but can't find the link now) that the 360 was rumoured for about a year, announced at E3 and then released the same year in time for Christmas.
They thought this was following the same pattern. I suppose it depends on what you would call "real" rumour on whether that could be this year or next.
All of the 10 year lifespan posts are bit daft as well from a Sony perspective. I think that includes future support as seen with the PS2. The PS3 will be seven years old just after Christmas and if the PS2 is anything to go buy then 3 years support would be taken as read. They will after all have to support the downloadable content that people have bought by the bucketload, one would assume anyway. Whether you can transfer it to the new console will be an interesting one.
The 360 will be 8 so I can't imagine them leaving it till Christmas 2013. I think 2014 is the corporate red herring being thrown about. I fully expect them to be earlier than the industry speculation if either of them don't want the other to gain the upper hand.
I hope so anyway.

Good points, truth is, none of us really know until it's announced.
Other thing to bear in mind though is that Sony were losing something like $800 per console on release and MS around $100 (if reports were correct at the time!), it took Sony until around 2010 to start making any profit on their consoles, I think MS was inside a year.
With the current fiscally challenged environment we live in at the moment, it could be that the bean counters won't allow such losses until the hardware cost comes down. After all, they can still churn out COD X thru Z and make another couple of billion, instead of making losses on subsidised consoles sales.
All speculation of course!

Well, nothing announced at CES, guess we'll have to wait until E3 in June to see if they have anything up their sleeves for this year.
|
|
|
|
I now doubt either of them will bother which is a major mistake to leave Nintendo with no competition with there new console,if Nintendo say that this time they are aiming for a more mature market then Sony and Microsoft need to do something.
Personally i think they are trying to get water out of a stone here but playstation 3 sales went through the roof last nov/dec and when you sell that many why would they even contemplate releasing a new console this year.
It would have been great and they may well surprise but i think we are talking 2013 here unless one of them changes there tune and decides that Nintendo may well be a threat and make a shock announcement .
Apart from a few developers i think they have peaked and reached there full potential and nothing confirms this more than seeing Battlefield 3 on consoles which looked nothing like the drop dead gorgeous footage shown 6 months before release.
If History is anything to go by and we look at past console releases we have always known 18 months prior about them,so for Microsoft or Sony release this year then its going to be one of the best kept secrets for a long time.

With so called industry experts contradicting each other, it's hard enough to 2nd guess what will happen. But when some of them talk guff like this, it's anybody's guess.

I really don't think Nintendo are going to challenge PS or Xbox. The Wii was a kids console, a few good games, but still a kids console. Even if they do try and appeal to a maturer market with this new console I don't think it will make much of a difference. They may have a few good games but not enough to compete with the quality of games the other 2 bring out, it's just not going to happen.
|
|
|
|
You may be right but Nintendo have openly said they want the mature market back, add to that the fact that they look like the only company in releasing a console this year .

I hope I am wrong to be honest T2D, I would love to see Nintendo have it's glory days again like with the N64 but they just seem to have slacked off. I was a sucker and bought both a Gamecube and Wii and a few games were ok on them but the rest were of no interest to me. If Nintendo bring out a new console with a plethora of games like Adventure, Platform, FPS, RPG etc. with sharp graphics & great gameplay not cartoony graphics with childish gameplay I will be interested. *sits on the fence and waits*

Exactly the same thought process of myself Jaxx,i also bought the gamecube [imported jap and usa ones and also in the end a Pal Gamecube.
Apart from the latest Zelda my Nintendo Wii has done nothing for the past 12-18 months because of the facts that you have just mentioned.
They really did do well with the Wii but like you say they totally gave up and all that came out month after month were stupid dance and fitness type games or really childish stuff that i have little to no interest in.
Like i said to Mrnelster in a previous conversation i will only be interested when i see that they have something of substance that appeals to me and the fact that they will released more mature games.
Im not sold from what i have seen on the tablet sized controller about the size of a ipad and the fact that this screen on the tablet will have a major part in the gaming process.
See my problem with this is i generally wear glasses for reading and also distance glasses for every day use and watching television ,so having this tablet in my hand means reading glasses, then actually playing the game on tv requires my other glasses.
Not exactly taking older age in to it are they and people like me who have not got that 20/20 vision anymore and that is another reason why i gave up on the Nintendo and Playstation portable gaming machines as they are just far to small for my liking anymore and if i want a spot of portable gaming i much prefer the bigger Ipad screen.
Thats why the new Sony vito has no interest for somebody like myself and any future hand held for that matter.
I bought the psp and the 3ds and i bet i never spent more than a hour with them and they quickly got traded.

I have 2 psp's but never play them. My hobby is collecting umd's for less than £2
Never watch them though :/
Are the games for the Vita download only again like the last psp??
Ahh found this
If you're a PSP owner already, any PSP titles you have previously downloaded from PlayStation Store will be playable on PlayStation Vita, along with minis and PS one Classics. You'll also be able to download new PlayStation Vita games and other content directly from PlayStation Store.
For non-downloadable games, PlayStation Vita uses an innovative flash based memory card which stores full software titles, any add-on game content and game save data.

Same old posters time and time again and little in the way of contributions or new blood getting involved in the gaming forums topics.

innovative flash based memory card
Enough to send shivers down the spine. So, I guess what they mean is there will be hardware based copy protection mechanisms in place then.

Just all the stale old timers incessantly yakking on and on as usual then.
I was going to respond but it wouldn't have added to the conversation and I blab on too long and say nothing most of the time so I thought I'd spare yas the torture but everything that I could've said's been said now anyway so that's a relief.

Blah ,Blah, Blah, a man with so much to say struggling to say something reference new consoles, come on now Spook give us the hard sell on why PC gaming is where the action is
By the way matey what you actually playing at present or are you building a new super duper powerful rig and telling us console owners how good Battlefield 3 looks which i traded 5 minutes after i bought it because it looked like a Playstation 1 game and played like a game using 30fps .
I was sure i was walking through treacle and how any FPS fan thinks this is better than COD games is unbelievable .................No on a serious note each to there own
Spook the more input the better and i like reading your fairy tales as they tend to have a cure for my insomnia .
Only joking matey as you well no.

Hey hey don't tar me with this old timer brush, I'm 23
|
|
|
23................Them were the days.
When i come to think about i think the first consoles were just about to be released when i was 23,until then we had to do with a spectrum 128k .
Jaxx you would not believe how mind blowing the graphics were in those days of old, think yourself lucky that you are at a young age to appreciate how far technology has advanced.
If you could see what rubbish we had to put up with way back then. ,even when i think back to the atari jaguar in the early nineties the graphics look pathetic by standards set today.
|
|
|
Nineties? What about the eighties? Poor old Jet Set willy will be turning in his grave.
|
|
|
Hahahaha. Yep, you've more than got me back for my previous insults there matey. Good one!
Well, I don't have much more to add actually except I wish I was 23 again. I'd have more hair, better eyesight and a better chance to lose the belly. If only...
Bet yeah, I wouldn't have such a nice xbox spanking ps3 beating quad core monster system to play all those fancy cod beating games with now, would I? That would be terrible.
I'm hoping Rockstar will announce they are planning a PC version of Red Dead Redemption for the PC and then I'll be happy. But I bet if I bought an Xbox or something Microsoft would then choose to announce their next gen console and I'd be stuck with an old fashioned piece of electronics from yesteryear feeling a fool for being so late in the game.
One thing is clear we need some announcements even if it's just to say "Yes we're working on something but it won't be out for a few years yet." Where's the harm in that eh?
|
|
|
|
For the sake of a £100 you could pick yourself up a second hand Playstation or possibly Brand new xbox 360 and enjoy Red Dead Redemption.
There are not to many games out there that are as classy as this and they are worth buying a console for.

|

Well the 80s were the days of the 128k spectrum that i was talking about.
