Dead Island Riptide...Reviews Pretty low

[link to this post]

Was looking forward to this game but i may change my mind as the reviews scores are not very good and mostly negative, apparently they have fixed nothing since the first game and the only difference is a new location with none of the apparent flaws from 18 months ago addressed .

Roll on next generation thats all i say as the majority of games getting released the past year or so are average at best or fail to live up to expectations.

I'm not really interested in the game based on my opinions from the first Dead Island.

I, probably like many others, bought it based on the very dramatic CGI trailer and first day, after the game not being available for hour after the release time, finally managed to play it and it was riddled with bugs making it unbearable.

Yeah i bought the first game based on the trailers and was somewhat disappointed ,i liked certain aspects of the game but it certainly did not live up to the trailer like most games that we see.

Im desperate for some new stuff and i think for a quality game this summer we have to wait until the Playstation 3 exclusive the last of us in June.

Apart from that there is little of interest until the end of the year.

Remember me has potential but then again not really blown away by the trailers of this game either.

Why buy a game based on a trailer ? It's like buying a car just because someone handed you a photo of one of the wheels..

I think people seem to think that a developer can do no wrong, forgetting the fact that quality can go down as well as up for all manner of reasons, not least the fact that development has been rushed for a specific release date.

I don't buy games based on trailers I was just agreeing with the previous poster, the original dead island trailer was pretty impressive and helped sell the game but the gameplay and game where pretty poor compared to the trailer of the game in question.

You could apply that logic to most games and trailers, but on most occasions when a trailer looks decent a half decent game comes out of it.

Yeah publishers and company's somewhat may rush a release date, but they also delay them for a better game experience if required.

Well said. Dead Island's trailer was a masterpiece of marketing and was so skilfully done it obviously added to the game's allure. I bought the game more than a year on from when it was released and when I was confident most of the bugs would have been dealt with.

I've had loads of opportunity to ascertain if the game was worth buying and at what price (Steam sale and just about worth the money) but who cannot compare the trailer to the game and yet still be disappointed that the game in no way whatsoever comes close to reaching the same level of thought provoking sophistication that this short trailer storyline had.

It's not just graphics or even gameplay per se, it's the whole experience, storyline, character development, setting and all. So, there's a world of difference in saying don't trust a trailer (of non-gaming footage) to fairly depict actual gameplay as it's just for extremely loosely based illustrative purposes and receiving a game that in no way even bears a resemblance when it comes to actual story and setting.

My estimation of Techland/Deep Silver as reputable companies is severely diminished so that's why I couldn't give a toss about Riptide really (not unless they beg for forgiveness and own up to not giving caring enough to close the enormous gap in marketing to production standards). And by all accounts, it thus far seems Riptide will continue the tradition in being as much of a bug ridden mindless chore of a game as the original.

I think thats a bit overexagerrating, if you compared it to someone buying a Citreon because of the break dancing robot adverts it would be a more apt comparison tongue

Dead Islands developers though, Techland, didn't exactly have any previous games that could give you (me) a hint of their quality of games. The only one I've heard of is Call of Juarez and I've never played that. Unless I know someone who buys DI2 and I play theirs, I can't see myself buying the second... unless I saw fit to grant myself a punishment

Robots should stick to what they're good at. Movies! And making stuff. And they should steer clear of advertising and marketing, especially if they can breakdance or freerun or do anything remotely cool.

[re: mrnelster] [link to this post]

Anyone with any knowledge regarding games and Gaming would have seen this Christmas Turkey coming from 100 miles away.

Even the trailer was [censored],and when they actually showed gameplay footage the nail was hammered even tighter into the coffin of a gaming disaster of the highest order.

I tend to go for developers when i pick up a game that has had little to know publicity and Gearbox in my opinion have produced absolutely Diddley Squat and i also put Borderlands in that category also even so some think that game is a great game by itself .

duke nuke em forever says it all and was the game that gave Gearbox a bad name all by itself,i was telling you for months Mr mrnelster that Colonial Marines would be a complete utter failure and it was.

I guarantee if they had given that game to someone like Rockstar,Or Metroid prime developers Retro or Ubisoft the game would have been a massive hit.

Now people all over the planet will be well aware of any future games released by Gearbox and there reputation as developers at present is right in the garbage bin and whatever they release next will have to hit a very high mark or they will fade into oblivion.

Took only a matter of a month for that game to drop to half its actual price, personally i would not buy a shrink wrapped brand new copy of that game for 0.99p...........tongue

What makes me laugh is the fact that Gearbox and a fair few other developer think they can get away with it,have they never heard about how powerful the internet is and the leaked footage of early copies and the reviews that flood in before the game even hits the streets .

They might have fooled the school kids who don't really have that many high expectations, but serious gamers i don't think so !

Everytime someone tries to cash in on a film franchise we get a joke of a game trying to live up to the hype of the film, just looking now at metocritic i see the same once again for Star Trek the Game released Friday.......Been torn to shreds by every review site going.

Never been a fan of the Ghost Recon series since I played back on the ol' PS2 xD Ubisoft does have its high moments though, everyone seems to love Assasins Creed, I've enjoyed Far Cry and Splinter Cell and the upcoming Watch Dogs looks interesting smile

You can not compare Ghost Recon future soldier with Aliens Colonial marines as there is no comparison as one is a very good game even though its not like previous Ghost Games and the other is a total disaster.

For me Ubisoft are probably one of the top developers at present and most of there stuff is really decent,Far Cry 3 was awesome,Raymans a brilliant platform game and Watchdogs will set even higher standards come Wintertime end of the year.

Personally I had no issues playing this online on a xbox360,never played a great deal as there are very few online games that hold my attention, even the great single player experience far cry 3 was the online was pants, same applies to tomb raider and the majority of games that get released,Battlefields been the exception .

Even Black ops 2 and previous modern warfare have become tedious online affairs, the only online gaming I spend is on gears 3 horde, and it would be great to think that next generation will improve the online and give us some seriously addicted online action.

Watchdogs looks far more than interesting and is a game I have ordered for the playstation 4 that hopefully does ship in Europe this year,if Sony let us down again and choose USA and Japan then I think I may have to have it on a playstation 3 as I'm not keen to wait months after certain territories .

I actually did the dumb thing and bought the game Friday, bad move the games basically the first and should have been downloadable content, from the limited time I spent on it Friday evening I would go as far to say the first game was actually better.....why I why I even bothered is another story, desperate for something to get me back into gaming and this certainly isn't it.

Looks like Fuse end of may will be the next possible buy.

Well Spooky the truthful answer to that is Buy games more wisely and check reviews throughly and video before committing to buy the game in question.

Im not to bothered about Microsoft as i don't really see them as a Gaming Messiah and seem to have lost what gaming consoles are about with there new console and its more media based.

Obviously those are the internet rumours and they may well spring a surprise, but seriously i don't think there is any reason to own all the consoles anymore after Sony Feb announcement

I heard the rumor about the posibility of killing the second hand trade when Sony registered the patent to use RFID to link game discs to the consoles, but I've also heard a more recent rumour that the new Xbox will feature an "Always On" system similar to the DRM that crippled Sim City. After the ton of bad press, Amazon removing the game from their sales and the 600,000 + free games EA gave away to try and redeem itself... I can see the Xbox taking a massive hit if that rumour turns true.

Everyone should just join us cool kids in PC gaming territory tongue

You don't need to state your age, we all know you're a bit senile just by the things you do. Buying games you've already bought, getting games you know are rubbish then trading them in the next day. That sort of thing can only indicate someone who has a couple of loose marbles rolling around. crazy

And besides, I think I already remember you mentioned how old you were plenty: all those references to the 1920s kind of gives it away. tongue
