Microsoft Reveal Tomorrow ..What do we expect ?

[link to this post]

So its Microsoft Turn to reveal a little bit about there plans for the new console tomorrow,on personal level I'm not excited if recent rumours and the way they are focussed on Multimedia functions,Kinect 2 ,and everything else besides Games.

I will watch the live stream in the evening just out of curiosity, hopefully what i have read over the past 12 months regarding the new console are just rumours and most is completely not true.

Normally i would be well excited at the reveal of a second generation console but sadly like i have stated in a previous topic i don't think this time around and based on what i have heard there will be any need to own each and everyone of them.

Even a New Halo [kids] or Forza has little appeal and they are going to have to come out with some amazing features or new IP that literally blow me away........And i don't see this happening.

If this always on function rumour turns out to be true then I'm thinking Microsoft have just handed the console war to Sony.

Like yourself I will also be watching more out of curiosity than excitement. The new COD I believe is being shown, but if its anything to go by BLOPS2 I wont be interested!

My biggest fear is the price of a new console and games to match. Are they going to be of superior quality to what they are now or is this going to be more of a stunt with future development really years away?

sorry if I have just repeated what you have already stated but ny views are exactly the same. It would be nice though to be completely blown away and look forward to the launch but I think I am getting to cynical in my age!

I think that the launch games will have to be some big names, gaming has came along so much in the last 7 or 8 years since the 360 that people will expect to see something massive to show off the talent of the machine..... not "Star Trek Into Darkness: The Game of the Movie" or something like that tongue

Hi Nutty, did not meet up on the new Gears mate as i quickly traded the game as it was not a patch on Gears 3 and there was no Horde mode included and a few online mode choices.

Still play Gears 3 but not as much and the only excitement i have for games at present is slowly diminishing,it will be a interesting watch I'm guessing and we will finally see which way Microsoft is going.

The 360 used to have some amazing exclusive games and new IP but sadly this is dwindling month by month when Sony have tons of stuff and Microsoft seem hell bent on self destruction and getting away from what a console should be foremost a gaming device and not a multi media streaming service with a lot of stuff that i have no interest in,i know others like the media functions but if you are a fully fledged sky subscribers i see little need for apps like Netflix, love film and all the other media stuff Microsoft seem to put into the dashboard.

My only hope is that when they do reveal tomorrow they confirm a world wide release date this year and hopefully this will convince Sony to do the same,as you know Sony have only said that the Playstation 4 will ship to in at least one region this year, and if you go by recent release history of previous Sony consoles then that wont be Europe and more than likely there weakest region for sales which is USA.

I also hope unlike Sony they show the console but im guessing that E3 will be where we get these pictures,Microsoft also need to make sure they don't release a product that over heats and has a terrible fail rate RROD like the previous rushed 360.

Normally it would be a no brainer for me and i would buy every next generation console that comes out, but from what i have seen and heard regarding Microsoft this wont be happening ,i have already shunned the Nintendo Wii U as i think its a total joke and Nintendo the once great Gaming company have well and truly shot themselves in the foot, not only is it underpowered and basically only on par with what we have at present, there is no 3rd party support and it has no decent games even worthy of a mention.

That system has been a total flop and i can see Nintendo going back to the drawing board and bringing something else out in the next 18 months.

What it should have had is a brand new Mario,Zelda,Metroid but it has not one single mind blowing game that would make you invest in it,besides it looks like a Black/White piece of plastic.

The Nintendo wii was huge but to me it was a gimmick and not a gamers machine,it interested the people that wanted a bit of fun occasionally and i dumped mine within months as the novelty wore of even after a few weeks.

This is the point Jaxx i don't see anything that is going to convince me that there focus is games orientated.hope I'm wrong and they blow me away, not only with the specifications but games and new IPs that are are mind blowing

The new Cod will be multi platform even though Microsoft pay for exclusivity of map packs for about a month.

The interesting rumour surround Cod In general is that of Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella, they apparently have a exclusive deal to make a COD game just for Microsofts new console.

As you know both where sacked by Activision and where the driving force behind Infinity Ward and have no set up Respawn Entertainment.

That would be nice if exclusive to Microsoft however the revenue that would be lost from PS3 sales would be too much unless MS are going to pay millions for the exclusive rights which of course would be passed to gamer. Would you pay £60 - £80 for a game and then pay extra for additional content - no thanks.

When Gears came out I was away working and by the time I got back I had read your posts and decided that it wasn't for me so thanks you saved me money smile

The Wii has not interested me in the slightest and never will so there never was going to be an option of buying one but read your posts with satisfaction that I still think Xbox is the better platform (I'm not trying to stir things just my own opinion)

As previously stated I will reserve judgement after tomorrow so fingers crossed some good will come from it lol

The last few years i have bought all Multi platform games on a 360 because you and me both know that they always get the best port and the playstation 3 has always suffered in comparison so i totally agree with your points regarding Microsoft and thats coming from a long Sony Supporter.

If you look at the Playstation 4 reveal you can see that Sony have learnt there lesson and this will not be the case for next generation consoles, and thats another reason why i only require just one of them and not all of them.

Developers have said how easy the playstation 4 is to develop for and that has to be great news as we will no longer see a inferior product compared to the 720 or whatever Microsoft name there new console.

Microsoft need to focus there presentation on Games ,Games,And more Games because the last couple of years they have had little in the way of exclusives and seem to think we all wont to play motion controlled Kinnect type games that have little to no appeal to hardened Gamers.

Personally just because they where new and different i bought into the Kinnect and Sony move and come some 2/3 weeks later they where disconnected dumped into my Gaming boxes upstairs never to see the light of day again.

Both are poor in choice of games which normally are some dance orientated Kinnect game or similar on the Move and both have calibration problems with far to much lag to even consider playing a FPS on them,Besides i don't want to sit in a room with floodlights on so that the Kinnect or Move can recognise my profile.

Both Microsoft and Sony jumped on the motion controlled gaming scene because of the success of the Nintendo wii,Now Thats become stale and boring and its not bought by your everyday gamer but more of the casual non hardcore gamer that probably buys 1 game a year and thats if its in a sale.

Someone like Swanny tongue

My local Blockbusters has sold 2 Nintendo Wii U since last November and they did not have a single pre/order for a system, now if thats not failure and lack of interest then Nintendo need to take a long hard look at what made them one of the greatest gaming companies of all time and go back to basics or producing playing cards where Nintendo started before they even went into Gaming.

I know you and me both are not interested in the Nintendo Wii U but they must of known that both there competitors would soon be releasing next generation systems ,so why release something that obviously nowbody wants with the power of what we have already and are about to get rid of.

There is a Rumour going around the internet this morning [and its just a rumour] that Sony may have played into Microsofts hands with there reveal in Feb,some gaming sites are quoting that the next xbox will have 12gig of DDR5 ram which is 4 more than Sony.

Sony states in there reveal though that specification is subject to change so if that does happen [Rumour] then expect Sony to upgrade there Ram as i can not see Sony letting Microsoft have a machine which is faster by some consideration.

I really hope the two of them aren't going to get into some childish numbers contest as far as the specifications go, especially with something as inconsequential as the difference, for console gaming, between 8GB and 12GB of RAM.

I have to agree the kinect was pre ordered and has been on the shelf from the first day I got it. And yes games, games and more games is the only way forward.

lests hope there is a battle looming and then the consoles will just get beteer and better as Sony and Microsoft try to outdo themselves.

Re: Microsoft Reveal Tomorrow ..What do we expect ?

[re: time2die] [link to this post]

I don't disagree with you either Old Timey except for the inclusion of Lovefilm/Netlix etc apps and the like but then it all depends on how good they are and how cluttered or not they make the Xbox dashboard etc. We don't all have Sky subscriptions and the internet's the way forward as far as content delivery is concerned don'tcha know.

If there are features you'd rather not have but they're there anyway, then you don't need to use them. Maybe some of them will come into their own one day, like Kinnect and motion sensing etc. The next gen is going to be significantly improved but yeah, it depends how devs implement the features but for FPS games, having head tracking could be great if it allowed you to look around in game to see your surroundings without changing movement direction.

The most significant aspects of the new consoles have already been revealed. Their architecture is... basically the same as a PC. Ta da! Yeah, I guess PCs won in the end then! They just want you to pay loads more for games for the privilege of having a console with a handheld control pad: they should call it couch tax.

As for the 'always online' requirement? As far as single player gaming was concerned, that issue has already been dealt with, no? I thought MS had made a statement that it wasn't necessary (I think they did a U-turn on that). The really important info as far as I'm concerned is copy protection and sale of secondhand games. The games industry is really going to do themselves significant damage if they expect people to buy everything new with no trade in value when the prices might be as much as £60 a pop for a new game.

Games have big budgets like the movie industry and there can be huge gambles made when funding flops; that risk will only grow if you're basically creating a huge uncertainty for potential buyers who're going to be so much more wary about buying something that might turn out to be a turkey. More power to games review sites but will they abuse it? Yeah, probably. If people can't trust games reviews then what? More anger and greater cynicism and less sales. This could further fuel a growing and self perpetuating negative feedback system where essentially all lose out.

Hopefully, the games industry will see sense and greed and profit won't be the prime motives. Like a good artisan, crafting a good game will lead to it doing well and making the money. Quality speaks for itself. But we've been here before, it's the perrennial question: the cost of creating a good game and the risks and rewards, which is perhaps why so many devs are switching their focus to mobile gaming and freemium models. But with Sony switching to what is an easier platform to develop for, hopefully we'll enter a new golden age of gaming. I think there's a lot of optimism around at the moment, the future of gaming is potentially looking pretty good so let's hope Microsoft don't do anything too stupid. laugh

That makes a lot of sense but to do that you need a nice choice of games and exclusives and i feel that Microsoft has forgotten what made there console desirable in the first place.

And that was a better online service, better looking Multiplayer games and exclusive games, something that you don't see on the xbox the last 18 months apart from Gears which was by another developer and a complete waste of development time as they ruined it by the simple fact of not adding what made gears brilliant in the first place Horde Mode .

Games industry more or less broke themselves by a massive buy out and closure of development studios and the push to have games that could be completed in 5 - 10 hours.

Where are the 30+ hour games of not so long ago?

I shall not be having any console this time around as I don't think the games industry even knows what it is doing anymore.

Game development costs have increased for triple AAA games, still some great games by the indie developers but most content from the 30+ hour games is dlc as its more profitable.

Mobile games are very big money at current and the industry does like the store option of people buying lots of small dlc to create a steady revenue.
