Alien Isolation....reviews in ...hit and miss..

[link to this post]

Ign.....5.9
Gamespot 6
Euro gamer 8.

Is it to late to cancel my pre/order....wink.

Just checked....account charged....Game shipped crazy.

Seems the smaller not so popular gaming sites are giving the game much higher scores...

For instance ...VGGamer.....9/10 saying they have nailed it...

This site gives it 90/100

Review scores are completely all over the place, more good than bad though wink

It really annoys me how these bigger sites like Ign and Gamespot constantly say how great the games are in preview builds and hands on at expeditions, then absolutely slate them to death on release.

No idea

Just checked....account charged....Game shipped

Problem solved then!

Well, they have to be nice whilst visiting software developers.

I expect to see posts from you of how poor it is soon... And don't forget some videos too - you haven't done any!

And I have to echo the previous poster - why on earth do you pre-order stuff, especially when the chances of it being good are about as much as a snail winning the 100m in 1 minute.

It's why I don't bother to take notice of reviews that often (unless they are all shocking).
This one for instance I've seen a few reviews raving about the Alien will do something different each time so if you die and you have to do a section again you can't just do the same thing as it will do something different, Then in another review someone else says completely the opposite and that the alien is very predictable.
I think half the time it depends on the persons mood that day what score they give it lol, Or for some places if they were given a nice bag of swag to up the rating.

Because I can and I get better deals because I'm a gold Shopto customer and I also like my games earlier than the release date.

It's not all bad news Trance my friend,it's just got a few mixed bag reviews from sites I expect more from after telling the world originally in previews how great the game is....

I'm under no obligation to pre/ order and most occasions I have plenty of time to cancel because reviews come out days before a game release .

Now reviews are only arriving just a day or two before or even on the release ,add to that I don't like using the likes of retail shop Game and my choices are limited.

Plus I like my games on or before release date and not 2 years later like Toady and Swanny when they are £2.99 crazy.

If developers had customers all like Toady and Swanny there wouldn't be any games,so they need people like me.....stupid as that is sometimes blush

Which means you are buying after waiting for everybody else's opinion of the game. I pre order and make my own mind up. Your approach may be penny wise, but mocking those that lead the way is technically biting the hand that feeds you.

Timey makes a valid point that you always neglect to counter. How would you know what was "quality stuff" 'if you only had review scores to go buy?

Guess we have to be like the Majority on here Nelly and wait a year and consider a new console if there is a price drop on the horizon.wink

Just imagine how the world would be if a new technology product was launched and nobody bought one crazy

Just like the mile long Queues for apples latest iPhone, yes there are teething problems with new stuff, take the original 360 and its RROD but that was happening 3 years after release and it took an age for Microsoft to do something about it,issues with the new iPhone 6 and god knows how many other products.

My Moto is this. You only live once,a new 4K television appeals to me and the girlfriend we don't and never will wait another year until the price drops by a grand or whatever,we have always been early adopters and i see nothing wrong with it.

Im a true gamer,i support the developers, console makers and the game industry on a whole,i don't penny pinch ,wait for price reductions i buy it on release and thats what i do and thats what i like.

Half of you guys on here only now about the games because of the likes of myself ,Nelly,Jaxx and Jorkila.

Infact i find it quite laughable that you so called gamers a year later still have last generation systems and like poking fun at the ones that keep the gaming industry going.

How would there ever be a new product if we all just stood by and never bought it at launch, would there even be a retail industry crazy

Course not Swanny, you have never bought a game you didn't like did you,Only Games like the Last of us that you traded the minute you couldn't get past a couple of Clickers crazy

So who's the fool Swanny..The guy that trades in one of the best games of all time,or the guy that pre/orders and is disappointed with the game in question once he plays it.

Don't feed me lies telling me you have never ever bought a lemon because you know that just isn't true.

And most the games you buy are by recommendations on here and other sites from early adopters,so there is a need for the likes of Nelly and Myself along with Jaxx and Jorkila, actually when i come to think about it us 4 are the only ones on here that actually buy games. Not forgetting Bert.

Time and patience been something i don't have in my department.wink

Well thats not exactly true i have plenty of time,i sing the praises of the last of us but boy its the most frustrating online game i have ever played in my life.

I told Frag that you must play as a team as its pointless, had to have some time away from it else i might be putting the duel shock 4 through the living room window.crazy.

Im looking forward now to this Drive Club and The Evil within, just wish they would stagger all these releases instead of framing about 12 games into a 6 week window.

There are a lot of quality games that get released minus the demos, the only thing suspicious are late reviews and generally review embargo.

I agree, more demos of the big AAA titles would be a better idea. The PS4's upcoming share with a friend system will be good. If Timey is persuading me to buy a game I'm not sure about, I can play with him online for a couple of hours and make my mind up before splashing out.

Review embargoes are the real clue though.

Like the free keys with Far cry 4,you apparently get 10 keys to give to your friends so they can join you in some co/op missions.

Apparently these only last for a 2 hour time slot then run out,so not exactly going to last to long are they, anyhow I don't think you will be requiring a key as Far Cry 4 is high on your wish list.

No point sending Swanny one on his ageing system and Toady on his Amiga 500 crazy

GTA 5 had no demo,The last of us had no demo,Far Cry 3 had no demo, the list is endless .

Review Embargo are and always have been the biggest problem, especially when they are from the least known developers .

I'm confident the likes of Naughty Dog,Rockstar,Ubisoft don't generally release trash so when a Top rated game is on the horizon like GTA5 that had a review embargo I'm not exactly worried.

I guess if you want it on or before release then it is the only option, I don't have anything against pre ordering but personally I would only do it for games which are pretty much a sure thing, like the next GTA. I especially wouldn't pre order if it's from a unproven developer and there are review embargos.

My question was aimed specifically to Timey as he seems to pre order a lot of games and he usually ends up not liking them so to me it seems like it may be best to just wait for some reviews and then pick up the better games, I guess if the money spent on them is not a issue then it doesn't really matter.

Fair enough then mate, hope the game turns out to be good as it looked promising in the trailer I saw way back.

Personally I have not found any game really exciting enough for me to either want a PS4 or want to pre order a game. Aside from playing Minecraft with my daughter I have not started on a new game since I finished Tomb Raider months ago.

Re: Alien Isolation.2 hour thoughts

[re: time2die] [link to this post]

Boring springs to mind but according to some reviews it takes at least 2 hours before its starts getting interesting and 2 hours before you first encounter the Alien.

Anyway lets start with the cut scenes and lip sync .Some of the worse cut scenes and Lip Sync i have seen in years with terrible flat looking characters and blocky looking textures.

And the cut scenes seem to jump and skip and don't flow and seem all over the place as if its testing the hardware of which i can reassure you it isn't by any stretch of the imagination.

Graphics are sort of really good in places and really Playstation 2 bad in others, lot of backtracking involved and the sort of game you tend not to care about within an hour of playing to be honest.

I played solid for 2 hours and it just didn't really grip me and personally i just didn't care much for the game, from what i have played its just another ruined opportunity of a fantastic film franchise thats really not done any justice by these game conversions.

Now it could become a whole lot better once the Alien turns up,but I'm not sure i want to around for the ride if I'm honest, its not a terrible game its just not a game you load up and think Wow now this looks really good and interesting as you get put of when you see the blocky textures, poor cut scenes and atrocious dialogue and cut scenes in the first 15 minutes.

Now i don't know about you but personally i think the games initial start should be the strong point and possibly fade pout towards the end when they run out of ideas and the story sort of loses the plot.

To have a game like this Bore you to death for the first 2 hours is not a masterclass in development and game design in my opinion, game should be screaming out..Play me..Not I'm bored switch me of and go play some arcade title i downloaded for a few quid a few days back.

I will give it another go later this evening. If i have the will power and patience needed, but from what i have witnessed in the 2 hour playtime I'm given it a 6/10 at the moment and thats generous crazy.

One thing they have nailed is the musical score which is very much like the Alien Movies but as a standalone this is not going to make for a great game.

I just think it needs a major developer to get hold of they franchise and not some designers we have basically never heard of,gearbox did the last one i know but they also had a hand in Duke Puke Em.mad

Bet I'm not saying the same about this in 8 days

either that or preordering is the issue.

What would happen if retailers got together and said either release playable demos and allow early reviews or we will allow refunds on preorders if person changes mind on release date or even worse forbid pre orders so no sales based on hype alone.
