GTA 5 had no demo,The last of us had no demo,Far Cry 3 had no demo, the list is endless .

Review Embargo are and always have been the biggest problem, especially when they are from the least known developers .

I'm confident the likes of Naughty Dog,Rockstar,Ubisoft don't generally release trash so when a Top rated game is on the horizon like GTA5 that had a review embargo I'm not exactly worried.

I have one question, why do you pre order games ?
Why do you not?

Why does anybody go to the opening night at the theatre? Someone always has to be first, I don't understand the logic on this forum sometimes

I always pre order, because I work hard and my family commitments mean it's not always easy to pop out and pick up on release day.

I guess if you want it on or before release then it is the only option, I don't have anything against pre ordering but personally I would only do it for games which are pretty much a sure thing, like the next GTA. I especially wouldn't pre order if it's from a unproven developer and there are review embargos.

My question was aimed specifically to Timey as he seems to pre order a lot of games and he usually ends up not liking them so to me it seems like it may be best to just wait for some reviews and then pick up the better games, I guess if the money spent on them is not a issue then it doesn't really matter.

Because I can and I get better deals because I'm a gold Shopto customer and I also like my games earlier than the release date.

It's not all bad news Trance my friend,it's just got a few mixed bag reviews from sites I expect more from after telling the world originally in previews how great the game is....

I'm under no obligation to pre/ order and most occasions I have plenty of time to cancel because reviews come out days before a game release .

Now reviews are only arriving just a day or two before or even on the release ,add to that I don't like using the likes of retail shop Game and my choices are limited.

Plus I like my games on or before release date and not 2 years later like Toady and Swanny when they are £2.99 crazy.

Fair enough then mate, hope the game turns out to be good as it looked promising in the trailer I saw way back.

Personally I have not found any game really exciting enough for me to either want a PS4 or want to pre order a game. Aside from playing Minecraft with my daughter I have not started on a new game since I finished Tomb Raider months ago.

Timey is a trail blazer. He's the real deal, the Indiana Jones of the gaming world.

I should know......I've seen his hat. wink

Re: Alien Isolation.2 hour thoughts

[re: time2die] [link to this post]

Boring springs to mind but according to some reviews it takes at least 2 hours before its starts getting interesting and 2 hours before you first encounter the Alien.

Anyway lets start with the cut scenes and lip sync .Some of the worse cut scenes and Lip Sync i have seen in years with terrible flat looking characters and blocky looking textures.

And the cut scenes seem to jump and skip and don't flow and seem all over the place as if its testing the hardware of which i can reassure you it isn't by any stretch of the imagination.

Graphics are sort of really good in places and really Playstation 2 bad in others, lot of backtracking involved and the sort of game you tend not to care about within an hour of playing to be honest.

I played solid for 2 hours and it just didn't really grip me and personally i just didn't care much for the game, from what i have played its just another ruined opportunity of a fantastic film franchise thats really not done any justice by these game conversions.

Now it could become a whole lot better once the Alien turns up,but I'm not sure i want to around for the ride if I'm honest, its not a terrible game its just not a game you load up and think Wow now this looks really good and interesting as you get put of when you see the blocky textures, poor cut scenes and atrocious dialogue and cut scenes in the first 15 minutes.

Now i don't know about you but personally i think the games initial start should be the strong point and possibly fade pout towards the end when they run out of ideas and the story sort of loses the plot.

To have a game like this Bore you to death for the first 2 hours is not a masterclass in development and game design in my opinion, game should be screaming out..Play me..Not I'm bored switch me of and go play some arcade title i downloaded for a few quid a few days back.

I will give it another go later this evening. If i have the will power and patience needed, but from what i have witnessed in the 2 hour playtime I'm given it a 6/10 at the moment and thats generous crazy.

One thing they have nailed is the musical score which is very much like the Alien Movies but as a standalone this is not going to make for a great game.

I just think it needs a major developer to get hold of they franchise and not some designers we have basically never heard of,gearbox did the last one i know but they also had a hand in Duke Puke Em.mad

Bet I'm not saying the same about this in 8 days

ignore those reviews, publisher simply didnt bribe them enough for good scores.

If the game feels good on your gut feeling go for it.

either that or preordering is the issue.

What would happen if retailers got together and said either release playable demos and allow early reviews or we will allow refunds on preorders if person changes mind on release date or even worse forbid pre orders so no sales based on hype alone.
