Very nice smile

With Plusnet here, still ADSL Max no Fibre yet. We are meant to be getting FTTP but it's taking them a damn long time.... had new poles and fibre run to village (I think) done back around Jan but nothing since. Planning on putting place on the market next year so may not even get to use it lol frown

I was looking at changing to them this week. But when I checked with plusnet, it appears that changing my call plan from evenings and weekends onto anytime calls a few months back (which most people would envisage as a bolt on service) actually renewed the whole line rental, calls and broadband package into an 18 month contract.

Not a happy bunny. mad

That's [censored]. I am with PlusNet and went to change my call plan online and almost fell into that same trap. Luckily noticed before going ahead, really not a fair policy.

Ended up staying with them when the contract was up, asked for the MAC and was offered free broadband for a year, 3 months free anytime calls and a £50 cheque. 18 month contract though but can be bought out for something like £4-5 a month from memory.

They quoted me something more like the whole price of 13 quid a month to leave, nearly £150!

Will be talking to them today and telling them I want a serious change to the package price or I'll cancel the DD and they can sue me for it. Fed up with dodgy distance selling practice from companies that ought to know better.

I rang Sky in April and told them I was leaving as my box was almost dead and it was cheaper for me to buy a Freesat HD box, as I don't watch very many channels.

They offered me a free box, free HD and a cheaper package than I was paying now. So I thought I'll stick that for a year and then cancel and get a freeview card to stick in it.

Anyways, I decided last week to buy myself out of the contract early and save the DD payments.

"Hello mister customer, how can we help you today?"

"I want to know the figure I need to pay to settle my contract early."

"No problem sir, let me take a look at your account. Ah, it looks like you have never activated your new Sky HD box?"

"It works. Didn't know I needed to, but I'm leaving now so it doesn't matter."

"Well I need to activate it so as to be able to access the information to cancel your contract. I will just do that for you now sir. Ok, that's all done. How can I help you today sir?"

"I want to know how many months are left on my contract and how much it will cost me to pay it off early please?"

"It will cost you the full package price, for each of the number of months remaining sir."

I didn't have a problem with that as the free Sky HD box would have had to have been paid for.

"That will be £648 sir."

"What the [censored]? How the hell did you work that out?"

"That's 18 months at £36 sir."

"But I renewed 6 months ago at £26 per month?"

"Yes sir, but as soon as you activate HD on your box sir, it automatically adds the extra fee for HD channels and changes into an 18 month contract sir."

"But you activated it.......30 seconds after I told you I wanted to buy myself out of the remainder of my contract!!!?!????!"

"It's really not a problem sir. Because you've been such a very special customer sir, for so many years, we can do you a very special, very special customer leaving deal, from our very special customer leaving department sir. Would you like me to give you the very special number for the very special customer leaving department sir?"

Nelly activates Titan Mode:

"No, I'm just going to cancel my [censored] direct debit [censored] face. [censored] [censored] you [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] and [censored] [censored] [censored] useless [censored] [censored]"

Only then did he stop calling me sir......

They are taking the [censored] especially Sky..what happened with that after you told them where to shove it ?

Sure Plusnet told me it was £4 something p/m to leave the contract early, I will have to see if it's on paper anywhere... won't be surprised if it's not.

Just spoke to virgin, they are offering me 12 month contract deal of £23.25 a month including the new superhub SE instead of my current £27.65 plus next months increase of £1.75. I was going to go for it until she tried to put the pressure on laugh
I told her I'd have a think about it and then she said I'd probably have to pay £20 delivery for the new hub. [censored] laugh

I heard BT are doing £17.99 line rental then 5 quid extra a month for 12 months. Then I heard on the radio that Sky are doing free fibre for 12 months if you took whatever tv package out, but I missed the detail.

I also read somewhere that household phone bills are rising faster than energy costs currently. Work that one out. Maybe the fibre harvest has been poor this year... crazy

Some good deals, I have free broadband at the moment but the line rental/call package still comes to £25 a month. That's market 1 ADSL Max for you grin

BT's had contractors laying ducting outside the village and in the next village so hopefully sometime in the not too distant future we will get fibre.

Yeah, I manage my old mums connection on a market 1 exchange. So expensive for a few GB, at a couple of megabits per second, compared to my unlimited fibre. frown

Anyway, I'm going to try to tackle Plusnet today and force them to cancel or reduce the price of my package to match those other deals. That is the option I should have had if they hadn't of sneekily extended my contract.

Definitely worth trying, they really shouldn't be able to renew the contract when just changing a call package.
