I've not really PC gamed in years, the old PC i have is a Dell XPS Gen 5 (anchient) but at the time it was top of the range and cost me £2000ish
Is there any half decent gaming machines prebuilt that are worth looking at? I only want it to run average games and not to be amazing... things like Flight Sim X, CS:GO etc

You really want to go down the route of pre-built?
The thing is you can save yourself a considerable amount of cash if you build it yourself!

What's your price range?

Buy that and replace the gpu.

Have you considered Novatech
They can even build to your own specification if you want a bespoke without having to build it yourself (although building PCs is a piece of cake these days).

Great delivery service from Novatech (in my experience anyway).
I desperately wanted to build my own, but it would just never of happened with what sometimes feels like permanent constraints on my time . I will definitely be rebuilding it at some point in the future though, which is far less intimidating to newcomers. Hopefully when the price of the AMD Nano halves.
It will fit perfectly in my micro case.

It usually takes me about an hour to build a PC from scratch these days (and I only do probably 1 a year) - then installing the OS can take an hour or so. It is relatively light on time and I do it just so I know exactly what components are in it.
Actually, the time to spec the machine generally is longer than the time to build it. I can spend many hours selecting the components. But, Novatech also do custom builds these days so can select many of the components and just let them build it for you.

They do deliver.
Here's a inexpensive pc.

Sounds good to me but I know nothing.
Is it something I should be spending my money on?

It's actually a good deal to be fair, you would struggle to build that system yourself for that money, in fact this is the price list to build yourself the only difference would be the case!!
Don't forget that you would still need an operating system to go with this.

CPU/GPU are all that matter if you're on a budget mate and both are fine. I'm surprised at the price as that is still a 200-250 quid graphics card Swanny!
[censored] horrible looking case though. But hey, if it's out of site?
EDIT: They are overstating the CPU turbo clock speed to that of the 4690k. Innocent typo perhaps, but I don't like seeing such important details gotten wrong. It invokes professional trust issues!

Swanny was on about the 4460/970 link....I think!

Yea but it comes with a Free 60 Day Trial Norton Internet Security

Reason enough to unwrap it, set it on fire and flush it down the toilet if ever I heard one....

When ever I build a Pc I usually just go onto sites like overclockers and see what pre-built units they are selling so I can then source the same components [usually upgraded] from Amazon or ebuyer.
Its worked just fine for me over the years, unless you are a tech head and completely up with the latest & greatest components [I'm defo not]
ZeN Line 1 BQM
ZeN Line 2 BQM
BT Backhaul sucks

What's wrong with asking about using Linux for gaming?
|
|
|
Here's a list of Steam linux games there's quite a lot there but nowhere near what you can get with Windows so I think if you want to PC game seriously you still have to have Windows.
I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS for years but not done much gaming apart from a few linux ones like tuxracer. Very happy with it for general computing though would definitely say give it ago.

I tell you what trance. There's a hell of a lot of decent looking content there in just the first 3 or 4 pages. If you get off the big AAA hype train, there's some fun to be had I reckon.
Example: Alien Vs Predator - £2-62
From 2010, I bet my card will max that to death and I won't be saying "Oooh, what awful 2010 graphics!" It could be a lot of fun, even if just for a weekend. I need to get away from Origin and have a good rustle through the Steam Library!
I notice The Witcher 3 is still £50 on Steam and £40 for NBA 16 so it's no cheaper than consoles with some AAA's. Cheaper in the supermarket I bet.

What's wrong with asking about using Linux for gaming? I reckon you need to take the plunge mate. I was blown away at how well Battlefront looks (maybe it's not that graphically intensive, but the texture detail is mental), almost photo realistic even on the survival demo. I think Kila is running it at Ultra 1440p on his 970 so I reckon that spec will blow you away, you just need to be happy with the supplier you choose and go for it!
|
|
|
Runs silky smooth @1440p for me amd looks awesome
Don't forget there are also other places to buy you pc digital downloads much cheaper too, ie Star Wars Battlefront for £29.90!!
|
|
|
|
I wouldn't buy Star Wars Battelfront for £4.90 as to me it simply falls in the same category as Cod and is just run and gun total garbage with nice graphics.
Isn't it funny now how the mighty Cod Franchise has fallen, nobody even talks about what once was the most anticipated game of the year, its out in under a month and yet there is very little media talk about it and that tells you something.
Black Ops 3 will be another epic Activision failure and only a intense Zombie Mode will save it and thats the only part of the game that slightly interests me even though at present its not a game i will be buying having been totally underwhelmed the last 3/4 years and have traded them all within a week of release.

Thanks Trance
I will install windows 7 for gaming and probably Ubuntu as my main OS
I don't like windows any more

I was looking at monitors the other day :/
Any recommendations?
24" I reckon but which make?
|
|
|
Try a Car Boot Thats about your price point .
|
|
|
I don't mind paying for stuff that's worth the money.
Games aren't worth the RRP

24" I reckon but which make? Hmmmm. Wrong man to ask bud. I really fancy the BenQ monitors but that's just from the marketing, not first hand experience
If you're going for a GTX 970, ask Kila what he paid for his 1440p jobby.

Mines not 1440p mate
I run some games @1440p via DSR.

Yeah definitely, I was actually surprised how many games were available on Linux now. Valve have made a lot of progress

Sounds good, Ubuntu is a breeze to install and if you get any problems it's usually easy to find the solution online.
