Odd choice with the SSHD's would opt for a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, aside from that not a bad rig.

Not That specification you spent on that system, i would have spent that purely on a High End Graphic Card for starters.
Besides i don't get jealous i get even
I've done my PC days and i more prefer the comfortable lazy Gaming option that is consoles, now if consoles were virtually leagues away in terms of graphics and performance i may have changed my mind..........But there not are they.
Yes its pretty obvious a decent PC rig will outshine consoles [Not Yours Though ] but there are plenty of fantastic looking games on consoles at present and in the past to keep a smile on my face and there is no need whatsoever for me entertain the idea of PC gaming.
So now you have taken the plunge i expect to see you posting about all the games you are playing on your PC and not your Playstation 4.

nice rig, remember to do what every good gamer does and overclock that cpu try and get 4.3ghz out of it

indeed, I know you guys thought i was nuts saying console's days are limited but glad you coming around now.
Sony have been adding ps2 compatibility to the ps4 as they know they got a big problem on their hands when they released the ps4 and sacrificed the games library at the same time.
On the pc that problem doesnt exist, if you upgrade your gpu in say 5 years time your old games dont suddenly stop working.

Sorry but that is nonsense, just look at these sales figures.... if you take the Wii out of the equation they are record breaking. If the console days are limited, which these numbers don't suggest, they wouldn't be going to PC. People in general are moving to tablets/smartphones not desktops.
The PS4 has now shifted a whopping 29.3m units since going on sale in November 2013. By comparison, the PS2 had sold 24.99m units after the same length of time on sale. The PS3 had sold 16.6m, and the Xbox 360 13.4m. (Microsoft doesn't report Xbox One sales.) The Wii, though, is the clear home console leader. It had sold 34.55m during the same time on sale.

nice rig, remember to do what every good gamer does and overclock that cpu try and get 4.3ghz out of it Altenatively, just play great games on a 980. How does overclocking make you a "good gamer"? It's not even necessary.

PC visuals are great, but socially it doesn't compare with the PS4 or Xbone. Take Battlefront, virtually locked at 60 fps. In MP that will look and handle brilliantly, and have simple chat and social functionality. If I were playing it as a solo gsme, or if it were a slower RPG like the Witcher, then PC would be my go to option.
Chrysalis has a Sony fixation. He doesn't mention MS running scared with the Xbone, and the last time I checked, that was a console too. Pros and Cons on both sides, but to say Sony have a problem with an inferior machine is blatant twaddle.

So lets just take the Christmas issue regarding this quote.
How many parents will go out this year and buy there children Xbox Ones and Playstation 4s against buying them a PC instead.
The only thing that may well possibly die regarding consoles is Disk based games in the future as digital content and Cloud Gaming seems to be where they would like to go.
Most of the games you mention on here Chrysalis are on the consoles and i hardly here you talk about playing games on your PC.

and what does have a gpu have to do with overclocking a cpu?
For reference pretty much most gamers who have gamed on the pc for years and spend the time to build pc's pick parts etc. overclock. Its a way of getting more performance for your money. Of course you are new to the pc scene so you have not grasped this yet but you only have to look at several enthusiast pc sites to understand this.

hardforum
arstechnica

I didn't say anything about overclocking a GPU. I said just get on with playing with a great graphics card, a GTX 980, and that CPU will rock without any tweaking at all.
Saying that most gamers who build are actually overclocking, is more nonsense, unless you can provide some research statistics? Listing the places you've read about people doing it, is plain daft. Hobbyists overclock and some builders might dabble, simple as that.
And by the way, I have a 4690k. I might mess about with it, I might not. Does that mean I'm not a good gamer?
You really do need to let go of this console grudge you have. I don't know if it's because you're into conspiracy theories, or whether Sony has shafted you on a purchase in the past, but whatever you might think you are saying when you post, it always comes across to everyone else as Sony hate. Which is fine too, but get your facts right.
Disagreeing with you is not pickng on you. The onus is on you not to make stupid and contentious posts in the first place. The other contributors knocked Sony with regards to backwards compatibility and pricing. They didn't claim consoles were finished, and that the sales figures are all made up!
On the pc that problem doesnt exist, if you upgrade your gpu in say 5 years time your old games dont suddenly stop working. You'll be replacing your over clocked CPU way before then.
Not picking on you just disagreeing with what you said. Didn't take Swanny's post seriously so didn't reply to it in a serious way.
The current consoles have been out for 2 years now so those sales numbers can't be down to hype.

Yeah I reckon that is the future, games streamed to use from the cloud..not sure how long until we get there but it will have to be when the infrastructure is in place.

I'd like the future to be external graphics cards on a generic set top box. You buy yourself your card of choice, and you can swap it between that and your pc as you like. Then Sony charge you "x" quid a month to get at their library and exclusives. MS do the same with the Bone and BOOM! Best of both worlds without having to pick sides, with easy visual upgrades as and when you can afford it. What's not to like?
If only.....
Yeah would be cool........I would have twin cards in my next playstation and 100 meg of Ram.
then again i may well invest in a nice Walking stick instead......Bone carved of course .
My patience now with many games is diminishing by the week,so I'm not sure that say in 5 years i will even have much interest unless there is a wheel chair simulator

I'm deeply hurt that you didn't take my post seriously

That's a bargain. I remember when it was £1 a MB for memory
I up graded to 64MB for £64
A £1 a meg? That's not going back far enough. My first PC didn't even have a meg (640KB). At work we were paying in excess of £30 a meg in the days of 286 and 386 processors. And there will be others that remember those sort of prices per KB let along meg.
Must start using my gaming PC again, only trouble is I might have to start heating the bedroom it is in if I'm going to use it over the next few months
I remember £1 a meg being a bargain. There was a price war on at the time
If your pc is serious you dont need the heating on in your room, have to regulate the heating in my room by opening and closing the window while gaming

Star Wars Battlefront sold almost 50% more physical copies on PS4 than Xbox One and PC combined, according to figures released by GFK Chart Track.
59% of all physical copies of DICE's latest shooter sold in the UK last week were on PS4, with 39% sold on Xbox One and 2% sold on PC. The figures do not include digital sales.
Total sales have yet to be revealed by EA, although the game is said to have had the fourth-biggest launch of 2015, trailing only behind FIFA 16, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and Fallout 4.
Battlefront did have the biggest ever launch for a title based on the Star Wars franchise, however, selling 117% more copies during its launch week than previous best-seller Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
It also sold more units during its launch week than previous 2015 record-holders Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Star Wars Battlefront is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Had a little go at Fallout 4 on the PC again yesterday. I turned the Godrays off to see if it would help with the stutter, but it had absolutely no effect at all. It still looked amazing though, the light flashing through the trees as you looked across the wasteland. It's a beautiful game, I just can't get my head around why the character facial models are so abysmal!
I'm not sure what the frame rate drops are all about. I set it back down to high, but other than a lower low, the average frame rate doesn't seem to affect performance at all. It's just random drops and stuttering, at times when nothing taxing is happening at all. Hopefully it will get patched, but I've cranked it back up and I'm sticking with 50fps at Ultra. It's easily playable enough at that.
But I am trying to love this game. I think with a bit more time I will actually get the hang of all this scavenging. I'm slowly getting used to the PipBoy (though you shouldn't really have to!) and when I do I can actually see myself enjoying this game a whole lot more. I've changed (toned down) the colour on the PipBoy as Timey recommended, and that helps a lot.
The slow movement when you've picked up too much stuff is way over done though. Really annoying!
You can actually change how much stuff you can carry on the pc version

Strange, Syndicate, was around last time I PC gamed, in the early 90s.
Well, Its lovely to be back, and I have just stumbled on Steam sale. Endless Legend, Xcom and Wargame Air & Land. For silly money.
Been playing RainbowSiege, got it free with the graphics.

Have to admit it, I've given up on Fallout 4. Just don't have the time to throw at it, and have totally lost the inclination to learn how to play it I'm afraid.
I'm also getting bored with Crysis 3. Not necessarily the game, but the genre I think.
I've been pondering picking up Shadow of Mordor. Anybody know how heavy it is RPG wise, in comparison to Falout 4?

Play Bloodbourne ,Be a Grown Up
Morder is in no way so heavy on the RPG elements but again its not for you, stick with games your actually good at..........Like Cooking Mama on the Nintendo Ds.

Shadow of Mordor is much more like Assassin's Creed, it's not like Fallout at all really. There is a skill tree kind of element but it's much simpler, in the same kind of way that AC and other similar action RPG's do it.
It's very hack and slash, but it has some really interesting elements. One of my favourites being that the bosses level up whilst you are exploring the map / playing the game. So if you don't take them out as certain points then they will just keep getting stronger thus making the game more difficult to complete. I personally thought it was a great game
There is a skill tree kind of element but it's much simpler, Sold! Cheers Jaxx
The hack and slash in Bloodbourne really appealed to me, but not the ridiculous difficulty level. Hard is good....for those with loads of spare time on their hands! (aka students and Mr Magoo impersonators)

I like!
I think it will last a long time. I certainly enjoy the mix. The difference between this and Bloodbourne, is simply options. It not being on rails, allows me to pick and choose my battles. The battles are no easier than Bloodborne, but I can choose when and how I approach them, without the forced repetition.
It also drags you in, with fantastic characters that verbally bait you before proceeding to smash your face in with an axe! This added scripting prevents the narrated lore from becoming overly pretentious. I say overly, because it of course needs to sound a little so. But what better way to compliment a Patrick Stewart style narrative, than being chased by a hollering, one eyed, Wilfrid Bramble?
The only negatives I can think of are :
1. I haven't got a clue what is happening with the captains at times. You kill one, and then he can pop up again a bit later saying "You thought you'd finished me off didn't ya?" and then gets promoted!
2. I wish there was a manual save function.
3. The climbing controls can be a bit counter intuitive at times, not aided by the game seemingly trying to predict where you are going, but it's not unique in that regard, in this type of game.
The piece de resistance for me though, is the "counter" function whilst in combat. Timing the pressing of the "Y" button, really drags you into the melee and focuses the approach to your attacks. Get it right and you feel like Burt Lancaster in one of those really old pirate movies; taking on everybody on deck at the same time, leaping over their heads and clambering up the scenery whilst they bay for your blood below!
Get it wrong and it's more akin to a Norman Wisdom romp, but still just as much fun!
Will I get right to the end? I hope so. I only get two weeks off a year. One to go away in the summer, and one at Christmas, the latter being the only one each year that I can afford to throw endless hours at a game. It's not perfect, but in that respect, Shadow of Mordor doesn't feel at all like a waste of them!
A solid 9/10 for me.
