QoS setup PS3

Hi

I'm looking to setup QoS on my bt voyger 2110 to give my ps3 priority traffic, But i have never used QoS and dont really understand it, There are 2 types of QoS on my router Bridge QoS / IP QoS, I have set a static ip on my ps3, I'm guessing that ip QoS is the one to use?

Under ip QoS are the following

Traffic Class Name:
Traffic Conditions

Protocol:
Source IP Address: Subnet Mask:
Source Port (start-end): -
Destination IP Address: Subnet Mask:
Destination Port (start-end): -
Assign Priority for this Traffic Rule

Traffic Priority:
IP Precedence: The corresponding 'Precedence' value in the IP header of the upstream packets will be overwritten by selected value.

IP Type of Service: The corresponding 'TOS' value in the IP header of the upstream packets will be overwritten by selected value.

IP QoS is the right one yes.

Do you have to use protocol? Iis there an option for mac address instead (if so its even easier) then you can just say everything from this mac address has priority.

I would set IP Prec and TOS to 4

I've just upgraded to the latest firmware 3.62 and now the QoS options are different, It now has MAC.

Assign Priority for this Traffic Rule

DiffServ Class (DSCP): The corresponding DSCP value in the IP header of the upstream packets will be overwritten by selected value.

Even better then, just choose the LAN port the PS3 is connected to or if its wireless use the source mac address of the PS3. Leave any destination blank and protocol if it will let you.

For the DSCP value use 46 (EF - Expedited Forwarding)

It doesn't have the option to choose which ethernet port i'm using.

If i wanted to give the low priority to my ps3 which DiffServ Class should i use?

Hmm that's a bit different, why would you want to do that?

I want to increase latency, I'm very highly effected by lag compensation in multiplayer on cod or bfbc2, To the extent there virtually unplayable, So i want to limit the bandwidth to increase the latency.

I don't think you are going to be able to do what you want really.

Setting QoS is about giving more priority to some traffic over others so say.. if you were on youtube watching something you could make it so the PS3 traffic gets priority and doesn't get swamped by the youtube video.

But you can't slow down the PS3 traffic to introduce more latency. Even if you gave it no priority at all it would still be unaffected.

If you use torrents (or something else that eats up your bandwidth) you could give that priority and your PS3 none at all that would affect it but I can't see you getting the balance right to be honest

I'd say its a problem with the game, not your set-up
