BT have been trialling it for ages so it must work otherwise they wouldn't release it

I wouldn't mind trialling it as my speed would not be an issue.

I'm just not sure that I would want to limit the people I could play with. Most of my friends are not lucky enough to have fibre available to them yet and probably won't for many years in their villages.

I do have my doubts about the service but I must admit I'm sure casual gamers or non-gamers would be interested in this, no set top box just a joypad.

Some TV's these days come built to run web browsing/java games. I'm not saying its the future (no console or gaming PC) but I'm sure there's a market it just might take a bit of time.

I'm inclined to agree there.

I have read somewhere about usage being around 1.6GB per 30 minutes of play. I'm not a broadband expert, but maybe these deals being done with providers will lead to huge increases in available bandwidth that could produce better rates for all users? Would upscaling of available bandwith produce more competitive pricing in the long run? We have very cheap BB deals around but they don't provide for priority streaming on this level. Could this sort of thing be a driver for where we should be heading anyway if it weren't for financial constraints?

If so that would be a bonus.

I'm pretty hardcore with COD on my PS3 but would still enjoy being able to play half an hour free on a plethora of titles in a casual manner and then rent or buy access to them if I wished.
I don't think one will necessarily need to replace the other. I'm all for the extra choice as long as it's done well enough. smile

Yep for sure I don't see it replacing either more complimenting and being used by people that don't have any console/gaming PC at all.

If that bandwidth usage is true it will be interesting to see how BT tackle that, I'm sure (or would like to hope) that even if your on a limited download package with BT the gaming traffic will not count towards your usage limit, like BT Vision doesn't because your paying for an added service on top already.

Toward the bottom of the OP is the usage claim. Obviously not substantiated but interesting all the same.

I dont see it getting very far - most people would have a PC/Mac/Linux or a console for playing and if you didn't you wont want to play.

I dont see a case for it myself...

Pretty much yes, its perfect for people who just want to "casually game", personally i dont believe there is much of a market for such a unit, plus whos going to have super fast net if they aren't gaming/doing stuff to make the line worth it?

Majority of gamers will want no compromise in their experience, Onlive has plenty of compromise which will have to be made.

Not sure what you mean superfast? There must be plenty of people interested in causal gaming that have a decent connection already just by how close they are to their exchange nothing to do with gaming? i.e. people on LLU/ADSL2+ over 10Mb ADSL (5Mbps+ recommended for Onlive)
