Consoles will never disappear my friend as they make 20 times more money than PC games,if anything the next generation consoles will dent the PC gaming industry even more as they will be more advanced in terms of memory,on board ram, processors, graphic capabilities.

This is a very long cycle for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 because normally we get next generation every 5 years and the 360 is some 7 years old and its time for a upgrade.

I think PC games look outstanding and i think there is a place for both in this world that we live in,consoles are just easier to get into and there basically right in your front room where all your entertainment is at your finger tips........Lets be honest most PC gamers that game are not in the front room all cozy and snug they are in some back room, office, attic completely out of the way.

I doubt very much the Wife or girlfriend would be very happy with some gaming rig wired up to the LED television.wink

though consoles and pc's are coming together quite fast, if you look at developements in consoles software features, wont be long till 'consoles disapear'

If you mean they will be "console" by name only, then I agree with you. After the next generation is released I think a new approach will start to appear. With all that extra power I wonder where Sony will go?

MS have talked (or at least it is rumoured) about their intentions of crossover between the Xbox and PC platform. If you can game, do your homework and order the food shopping from tesco all from the TV but with proper windows type functionality, that would be a real step forward. And where Sony would compete with that on an OS basis is difficult to imagine if the current Playstation system is anything to go by.

But I still won't be happy until I can call mine Mr. Smith and order it to pay the gas bill for me. wink

To be honest all they need to do is add a browser - and suspect they will add HTML5 capable one to next xbox, look at Windows 8 - with its dual personality. I bet the one with no legacy is destined for the xbox in one form or another.

If they want to be taken seriously for cross-over, also need to supply a netbook sized keyboard and glide pad as standard with console.

Agreed. Mini keypads and controller input are a complete waste of time.

Though they would probably expect to sell those as extras!

Definitely time for an upgrade
