Plain Javelin lock on time is a real pain, as keeping tank in sight from a slightly hidden position is a lot harder

Cool man. So tanks are only really worth taking in the rear. grin

I thought it'd be a bit more sophisticated than that to be honest, like weaknesses in the joins between turret cockpit and main tank body? Seems not.

Had to look SOFLAM up:

I want one now but like you say, seems it would hardly get used.

SOFLAM is pretty good if you are using guided missiles in the tanks third seat (if you have unlocked that perk yet)

Still prefer the first one but they are useful for seeing how close you are (particularly to medals).

I have 41 out of 45 ribbons and I am sure that I could get 3 of those if I thought to try for them but the MCOM defender ribbon is going to be a real tough one. Getting the associated medal (30 ribbons for that particular one!!) will be a long long slog.

Was on a server last night (64 players on canals) and I was the gunner in the Apache with the best heli pilot I have ever seen. At first I though he was going to crash straight away but soon realised that he took low level flying to an extreme. It was crazy how he would consistently fly a few metres off the ground and not hit lamp posts or building or anything. We took out planes and helis without breaking a sweat. Tanks would die in 1 pass as he fired his missiles at them whilst I hit them with the cannon. He would hide behind buildings and then just jump out and everything died before they could do much about it. When missiles came our way most of the time he would just duck behind a building whilst the missile hit that but they soon started ganging up on us (the lock on tone was a constant accompaniment to our flying) so he would have to flare... occasionally. The 3 times we did get hit we just landed, he got out and repaired and off we went - once we were out of bounds but he repaired and climbed back in before the 10 secs was up. It was simply amazing. He only got 3 kills but got MVP2. I on the other hand got 32-0 (and a lot of abuse from the enemy team who didn't like me for some reason!) and it was so much fun laugh

I only wish I could have got a video of it!

I borrow a spare helicopter if one is left at initial spawn, and try to fly, but usually crash soon after.

Did you have voice comms with pilot?

I am becoming a reasonable pilot but I cannot fly that low and I hate heli Vs heli flying which even if you win usually leaves you screwed. But being gunner is by far the easiest thing going. You don't even need to be that accurate. If you just point close enough to the guy on the ground and hold down fire he is going to struggle to survive 30 rounds hitting the ground around him smile

But no, I didn't have voice comms which although a shame didn't matter too much with his piloting. I did try to use common sense with what I did such as not shooting at the enemy heli 8 miles away or other silly things that just attract unwanted attention - I would wait until he started locking his air to air missile and then pummel the heli whilst he followed up with his normal rockets. But he could see which flags the enemy had as well as anyone so would just sweep over them. Occasionally hovering to cap them as well!
