In game adverising

This is something I disagree with in principle, but can honestly say I dont remember seeing it in any of the games I've played. And I'm surprised how long these companies have apparently been doing it for.

Perhaps the products have been mainly American and I haven't clocked them?

I remember all the fuss when it was introduced in BF2142. I didn't mind it at all and if anything it made things look more realistic rather than the usual advertising hoardings with fictional companies on them. After all if you're playing an FPS or driving along at 300mph who pays attention to signs or hoardings?!?

Ubisoft use in game ads, they always have, they can be blocked by editing your hosts file with the ip address/s ,it would seem to be one reason why they use an antiquated unreliable master server system for all traffic to run through , without a back up so if the server fails no one can play online, then there is their DRM but that's another matter entirely

If a game was say £5 cheaper than its competitors, then some advertising is ok, e.g. bill boards, posters on walls.

A fair deal of it will have been product placement type, e.g. a restaurant with pepsi rather than coca cola branding perhaps, that sort of subliminal stuff.
