Blizzard account closure

I enquired a few weeks ago to see what was needed to close my Blizzard online account. Unlike EA (who just accept an email), they require the following :

- Your Battle.net account name
- Full name registered on the account
- Your full address including postal or zip code
- Your Battle.net Secret Question and answer
- A legible scan or photo of a piece of government-issued photo identification, such as a passport or driving license matching the first and last name of the registered account owner

to be posted to France...

The last bit is annoying, but unfortunately seems to be required. I did suggest that they add this information to their manuals next time.

What is the point in requiring photo ID if you've not going to be there (in France) for them to verify they have the right person?

I guess - once you've signed up - they just don't want you to leave.

Yes, I think they try to make it as difficult as possible for the same reason. I presume they feel that a name on the photo ID should be the same as on the account details.

Can you not just delete any payment info, alter the password to a very long random string and change the email address so you can no longer get to it?

That way all they have is your name and address details and lets face it, anyone can get hold of them!

There is no payment information - as I haven't paid them for anything...

Besides, changing password and email address doesn't delete the account...

They'll let someone nick your email address to set up a battle.net account without any problem whatsoever and then will refuse to do anything about it

I finally got my account closed several days ago. It actually took two letters as they decided to move during delivery to the original address... No idea what happened to it - I suppose they couldn't afford to have mail re-directed
